  • 10+ years of experience in power systems engineering or industrial electrical design.
  • Demonstrated expertise in: 480V–13.8 kV distribution systems, Industrial switchgear, MCCs, and motor systems, Power system modeling and analysis.
  • Advanced proficiency with ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, or similar tools.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC, IEEE standards, and NFPA 70E.
  • Proven ability to lead complex system design and operate independently in a technically demanding environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience in fusion, energy generation, large-scale R&D facilities, or continuous-process industrial plants.
  • Familiarity with: High-availability power systems and redundancy design, Medium voltage drives and large motors (>1 MW), Utility interconnection and substation coordination, Protection relay configuration and testing.
  • Experience supporting commissioning of complex electrical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design of low and medium voltage (480V–13.8 kV) distribution systems for stellarator facilities and supporting infrastructure.
  • Develop and maintain single-line diagrams, load schedules, grounding systems, and equipment layouts.
  • Specify low and medium voltage switchgear, transformers, MCCs, and distribution panels designed for high availability and continuous operation.
  • Architect power systems for large, steady-state electrical loads with tight reliability and thermal performance requirements.
  • Lead and execute detailed engineering studies, including: Load flow / power flow analysis, Short circuit analysis, Arc flash hazard analysis (IEEE 1584), Protective device coordination, Voltage drop and steady-state performance evaluations.
  • Develop and maintain system models using ETAP, EasyPower, or SKM PowerTools.
  • Provide technical leadership for large industrial motor systems.
  • Design and specify VFDs, MV drives, and motor starting methods optimized for continuous-duty operation.
  • Evaluate impacts of motor loads on system stability, harmonics, and efficiency.
  • Develop and own protection philosophies and relay coordination strategies for LV/MV systems.
  • Provide technical leadership during installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical infrastructure.
