About The Position

The Senior Power Generation Engineer is a systems design role responsible for guiding the technical excellence and growth of the power generation engineering practice at Vantage Point Solutions. This position combines deep technical expertise in power with project leadership, client engagement, and staff coordination responsibilities. The Senior Power Generation Engineer will oversee engineering projects, ensure high-quality project delivery, mentor engineering staff and support business development initiatives while serving as a trusted advisor to utility clients.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of electrical power systems including generation, transmission, substation design, and protection and control systems.
  • Experience in design of coal-fired and natural gas power generation plants.
  • Experience using industry-standard engineering design software.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience of working with electric utilities or electric cooperatives is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a power systems emphasis required.
  • 10+ years of experience in power systems engineering.
  • Minimum of 4 years of leadership or supervisory experience managing engineering teams or projects.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.

  • Specialization in control systems is preferred.
  • Strong client engagement and consulting skills with the ability to assess project risks and deliver practical solutions.
  • Multi-state licensure or ability to obtain additional licenses preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and implementing strategies, policies, and best practices for the power generation engineering department.
  • Identify opportunities for growth in areas such as grid modernization, renewable energy integration, and microgrid development.
  • Align engineering services with evolving industry trends and client needs.
  • Serve as a key client contact and maintain strong relationships with existing electric utility clients.
  • Support proposal development, project scoping, and client presentations to secure new work.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to expand the firm’s power generation engineering services.
  • Provide technical leadership and oversight for complex engineering projects.
  • Serve as Engineer of Record (EOR) when required.
  • Ensure all engineering deliverables, including studies, drawings, and specifications, meet applicable safety codes, regulations, standards, and quality expectations. These include but are not limited to NEC, NESC, NFPA, ISO, OSHA, etc.
  • Oversee power generation engineering projects to ensure they are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Monitor project performance and ensure client satisfaction.
