About The Position

TDK-Lambda Americas Inc. is seeking a Senior Power Electronics Engineer to join their team. This role involves evaluating power circuit topologies, performing circuit simulation, analysis, and testing, and creating test plans. The engineer will also mentor lab technicians and junior engineers, perform failure analysis, and support customers with application-related issues. The position requires designing to meet cost constraints, safety, and reliability standards, and may involve work with information or access to hardware subject to ITAR regulations, requiring applicants to be U.S. persons.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university/advanced degree or certificate
  • More than five years of related experience (or equivalent combination of education, training and experience)
  • Hands-on experience with designing, debugging, and testing of power converters, including magnetics and control loop design.
  • Understanding of various safety standards related to power supply products.
  • Proficient in one or more of the following software: LTspice, OrCAD PSpice, MATLAB/Simulink, or Mathcad.
  • Understanding of various power semiconductor technologies.
  • Familiarity with PCB design.
  • Understanding of EMC issues relating to high frequency switching and associated industry standards for compliance.
  • Good communication, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Must be a U.S. person within the meaning of ITAR (U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident, Political Asylee or Refugee).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in High Power (1 kW to 50 kW) converter product development is preferred
  • Any work experience on high voltage products with output voltage greater than 1 kV is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate various power circuit topologies to achieve optimal cost/performance trade-off as part of new product development
  • Circuit simulation, analysis and testing to verify designs
  • Perform design validation through functional, safety & reliability tests to prove designs will function per specifications over the intended operating range per TDK-Lambda design criteria
  • Create test plans, document test results and drive change orders for modifying existing designs
  • Mentoring lab technicians and junior engineers
  • Perform failure analysis on field return units as needed
  • Support customers for application related issues
  • Design to meet cost constraints, safety and reliability standards
