About The Position

Stored Energy Systems (SENS) is an award-winning manufacturer of premium quality power conversion products located in Longmont, CO, with over 50 years in business. SENS is a market leader providing highly reliable battery chargers, DC power systems, and related products to industrial markets. The company is seeking a highly skilled Power Electronics Engineer to design and develop industrial battery chargers, inverters, and related accessories across a wide power range (150W to 100kW) for critical power applications. This role covers the full product lifecycle from concept development and design through production launch and ongoing support, requiring deep technical expertise in power conversion and embedded control systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with 8+ years of power conversion experience OR a Master’s degree with a focus in Power Electronics and 6+ years of power conversion experience.
  • Proven experience designing power conversion systems, including active front-end designs for single and three-phase AC inputs.
  • Strong understanding of isolation requirements, including creepage and clearance standards (UL, IEC).
  • Experience with EMI/EMC design, compliance, filtering, and troubleshooting.
  • Deep knowledge of power semiconductor devices (MOSFETs, SiC, GaN), gate drivers, and protection circuits.
  • Proficiency in analog and power circuit simulation tools (e.g. LTspice).
  • Strong foundation in control theory, including design, modeling, and stability analysis of control loops.
  • Experience with thermal design and analysis (heatsinking, airflow, and loss modeling).
  • Knowledge of magnetics design, including transformers and inductors (core selection, winding techniques).
  • Experience with isolated and non-isolated bidirectional topologies (DAB experience strongly preferred).
  • Hands-on experience with lab instrumentation (oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, network analyzers).
  • Demonstrated success bringing products from concept through volume production.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills with the ability to work effectively across teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing and certifying grid-tied systems to UL 1741.
  • Knowledge of phase-locked loops (PLL) for grid synchronization.
  • Experience with large-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS), UPS systems, and battery charging applications.
  • Advanced programming skills in embedded C/C++.

Responsibilities

  • Design, analyze, simulate, prototype, and validate power conversion systems and topologies.
  • Develop and implement both analog and digital control loops.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including product specifications, schematics, and interface control documents.
  • Conduct design reviews and collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams.
  • Support product transition to manufacturing, including design for manufacturability and test readiness.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues in production and field environments.
  • Mentor and support the development of team members, contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.
