Senior Power BI Analytics Engineer

Aspenview Technology Partners•Denver, CO

About The Position

AspenView Technology Partners is seeking a Senior Power BI Analytics Engineer to design, build, and optimize the reporting and data-modelling layer that enterprise stakeholders use for decision-making. The role works end-to-end, from gathering requirements with analysts and business stakeholders through dimensional modelling and pipeline development in the Azure ecosystem to delivering Power BI reports. This is a contributor role that requires sound judgment and initiative, not simply execution of assigned tasks. The engineer is expected to question whether the right solution is being built, challenge established patterns, raise risks early, and improve the team’s practices. The role includes designing scalable BI models and data marts, developing and optimizing data pipelines, and supporting governance, security, and compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • At least 6 years of hands-on experience in data engineering or BI data modelling.
  • At least 6 years of proficiency with Power BI, including data warehousing, virtual warehouses, and cost optimization.
  • Experience in complex, detailed environments involving global organization architecture and enterprise data solutions.
  • Experience with Azure Data Factory and Synapse Link.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with dimensional modelling, data marts, and historical dimensions.
  • Working knowledge of Azure DevOps and Agile/Scrum delivery.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Independent self-learning, delivery focus, resilience, and flexibility.
  • Must be permanently authorized to work in the country of residence and must not require employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AX/D365 F&O data entities and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with data integration tools such as dbt, SSIS, Apache Airflow, Fivetran, or Talend.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build Power BI reports using data modelling, Power Query, and DAX.
  • Conduct analysis and requirements gathering to translate business logic into data solutions.
  • Communicate with data analysts, BI developers, and business stakeholders.
  • Design and implement scalable data marts and BI data models in Azure Data Factory and Microsoft Fabric using dimensional modelling principles, including star and snowflake schemas.
  • Implement strategies for managing historical data and slowly changing dimensions (SCD types 1, 2, and 3).
  • Design and document data lineage, transformations, and architecture components.
  • Develop and manage ETL/ELT pipelines for batch processing and near real-time data ingestion.
  • Optimize Azure Data Factory objects, including tables, views, and warehouses, for performance and cost efficiency.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data pipelines and models to ensure reliability and accuracy.
  • Implement data governance, security, and compliance best practices.
  • Work within Azure DevOps and Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Challenge existing processes, data models, and reporting standards; raise risks and ambiguities early; and propose improvements beyond assigned work.
