About The Position

The Portfolio Advisory Team (PAT) at BMO Private Wealth provides independent and objective investment advice to the 1000 investment advisors across Canada at BMO Private Wealth, who collectively manage nearly $300 billion in AUM. The Equity group within the PAT advises advisors and their teams on individual North American equities. The group collaborates with BMO Capital Markets and BMO Global Asset Management, utilizes external research, and performs its own due diligence to guide advisors in ensuring client portfolios meet required outcomes. The Senior Portfolio Advisor on the Equity team will focus on three main areas: Servicing Advisors, Thought Leadership, and Portfolio Management. This role involves contributing to the team's daily service operations, providing one-on-one service to advisors (portfolio and model reviews, stock recommendations, sector positioning), and making recommendations on individual North American stocks. The advisor will also visit branches to deliver presentations on macro topics, sectors, and stocks, acting as a primary subject matter expert on North American equities. For thought leadership, the role requires generating frequent, impactful content (presentations, morning calls, podcasts, written materials) that is original, thought-provoking, actionable, concise, clear, engaging, and highly relevant for advisors. In portfolio management, the Senior Portfolio Advisor will be a key member of the investment committee responsible for managing five guided portfolios, conducting independent analysis to contribute to discussions on portfolios, positions, opportunities, and risks. The role demands high engagement in investment committee discussions and acting as a role model for fostering dialogue and respectful debate to ensure the best decisions for the models. Additional responsibilities include a deep understanding of business and strategic priorities, demonstrating leadership qualities, being sought after for client engagements, and potentially engaging with ultra-high net worth prospects and clients to discuss investment resources and market views.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of relevant experience in equity research, sales and trading, and/or portfolio management.
  • Advanced understanding of the equity markets, particularly in North America.
  • Exceptional communication skills – verbal and writing.
  • In-depth / Expert analytical and interpretive skills; capable of sourcing and identifying pertinent factors from large volumes of information.
  • In-depth organizational skills; strong attention to detail and risk.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills - In-depth / Expert.

  • Able to manage ambiguity.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the scalable daily service operation/offering of the team (e.g., morning call, morning and afternoon note).
  • Service advisors one on one: portfolio and model reviews, thoughts on individual stocks, sector positioning, etc.
  • Make recommendations to investment advisors and their teams on individual North American stocks.
  • Visit branches across the country and deliver branch and client presentations on relevant macro topics while presenting views on sectors and relevant stocks.
  • Act as a primary subject matter expert on North American stocks.
  • Generate impactful content on a frequent basis for advisors and their teams: original, thought provoking, actionable, concise and clear, engaging, and highly relevant.
  • Content can take various forms: presentations, morning calls, podcasts, and written.
  • Key member of investment committee responsible for the management of five guided portfolios (concentrated stock portfolios that form a key building block for advisors).
  • Conducts independent analysis and assessment to contribute to team discussions on portfolios, positions, opportunities and risks.
  • High engagement level in investment committee discussions.
  • A role model who sets an example of how to foster dialogue and respectful debate among the team to hear all perspectives and ultimately make the best decisions for the models.
