About The Position

As the Senior Portfolio Accountant for Private Markets, you will oversee accounting and reporting for a complex portfolio of private market investments while leading a team of three accounting professionals. Working closely with the Chief Financial Officer and colleagues across the organization, you will help ensure accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and sound stewardship of APFC's assets. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
  • Seven years of progressively responsible professional accounting experience.
  • Supervisory or team leadership experience.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, to monitor and analyze complex transactions.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Public Accountant designation.
  • Experience in accounting for private market investments.
  • Experience with institutional investment portfolios and investment accounting systems.
  • Knowledge of investment performance reporting and financial statement preparation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and oversight for the accounting and financial reporting of APFC's private market investment portfolios.
  • Serve as the technical expert for private market accounting by reviewing partnership agreements and investment documentation, determining appropriate accounting treatment, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal policies.
  • Evaluate accounting and operational risks; establish accounting policies and procedures; and recommend enhancements to internal controls that support accurate financial reporting and safeguard Fund assets.
  • Lead business requirements development, testing, implementation, and optimization of investment accounting and reporting systems.
  • Collaborate with Investment, Finance, Legal, Compliance, investment managers, fund administrators, custodians, auditors, and other external partners to support investment operations and financial reporting.
  • Lead private markets audit activities by overseeing audit schedules and supporting documentation and serving as the primary contact for auditor inquiries related to private market investments.
  • Prepare reports for management, external stakeholders, and the Board of Trustees.
  • Supervise Portfolio Accountants and Accounting Technicians by assigning work, providing technical guidance, reviewing work products, supporting professional development, managing performance, and ensuring continuity of operations through cross-training.
  • Participate in strategic planning related to accounting operations and investment support and identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting, controls, and operational efficiency.
  • Oversee accounting records and daily accounting activities for private market investment portfolios, including capital calls, distributions, management fees, cash activity, valuations, investment transactions, reconciliations, and related reporting.
