About The Position

Groom Law Group is seeking a full-time Senior Policy Advisor to support our clients and practice groups by performing a variety of governmental affairs duties. The successful candidate will be a motivated self-starter and team player with the ability to balance competing demands on a variety of confidential matters. The ideal candidate must be an effective problem-solver with excellent organizational, communication, and writing skills. The candidate could work remotely but would be expected to come to our office in Washington, DC several days per week most weeks.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in federal legislative and public policy roles, gained through a combination of work at law or advocacy firms, federal government agencies, Congress, trade associations, interest groups, or corporate in-house counsel or government relations positions.
  • Strong understanding of how the federal government operates, including the interaction between Congress and regulatory agencies.
  • Expertise in public policy and familiarity with a broad range of policy issues.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and artificial intelligence-powered tools.
  • Strong writing, editing, organizational, and logistical skills.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

  • A J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Create written alerts and other content for clients and firm attorneys
  • Monitor ongoing Congressional and agency developments within assigned policy portfolio, staying up-to-date on developments with regulators and in Congress
  • Arrange meetings on Capitol Hill and with governmental agency officials
  • Run Capitol Hill fly-ins
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key Capitol Hill staff and agency personnel
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key K Street allies
  • Take ownership of a constantly evolving policy portfolio, becoming a subject matter expert on new issues and staying self-motivated to investigate and track new developments as they occur
  • Draft talking points and background reports and memoranda
  • Advise attorneys on major policy developments
  • Conduct independent research and writing projects, establishing a public profile as a commentator on regulatory and legislative matters.
