About The Position
Glumac, a Tetra Tech company, is expanding its plumbing engineering group in Northern California and is seeking a Senior Plumbing Engineer passionate about sustainable design to take a lead role on diverse projects. This role offers the chance to work on a variety of projects including healthcare, commercial, multifamily, and educational buildings. Responsibilities include leading plumbing designs and supporting construction administration, with long-term career growth opportunities in people management, standards development, and workflow improvement within the group. The Senior Plumbing Engineer will lead plumbing consulting and design efforts from Schematic Design through Construction Administration, responsible for plumbing system calculations, client consultations, technical design deliverables, interdisciplinary coordination, QA/QC compliance, and mentoring junior staff. The role requires collaboration with internal and external project teams and regular site visits. The ideal candidate is self-directed, solution-oriented, possesses strong communication and organizational skills, and is committed to sustainable practices.
Requirements
- 7+ years in consulting, construction, or similar.
- Valid PE license.
- Proficient in Revit (BIM).
- Strong plumbing design experience (commercial, healthcare, process, multifamily residential, and/or manufacturing).
- Clear communicator, organized, solution-oriented, able to work independently.
- Must be located within a commutable distance of Glumac’s Sacramento or San Francisco offices.
- Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis; this position is not eligible for current or future employment visa sponsorship.
Nice To Haves
- Medical gas or process piping experience (certifications a plus).
- LEED, LFA, or sustainability credentials (experience with water harvesting/treatment and heat pump water heaters a plus).
- Water treatment knowledge (experience with water softeners, descalers, interceptors, and similar treatment devices a plus).
- Fire protection knowledge (experience with wet/dry systems and dry-agent suppression systems a plus).
- Project Management, Business Development, or prior team leadership experience.
Responsibilities
- Lead plumbing designs and prepare construction documents.
- Perform plumbing calculations including: fixture counts, booster pump head, ejector pump head, domestic hot water loads (including heat pump design), storm water, condensate collection, fuel oil venting etc.
- Coordinate with ownership, mechanical, electrical, structural, and architectural teams.
- Support Construction Administration: RFIs, submittal reviews, site visits, and field reports.
- Adhere to QA/QC policies and escalate issues as needed.
- Mentor junior engineers/designers and help grow the local plumbing team.
- Assist with Business Development (BD) opportunities when needed.
