Plumbing Engineer/Designer - Sacramento, CA
About The Position
Glumac, a Tetra Tech company, is expanding its plumbing engineering group in California and is seeking an experienced Plumbing Engineer/Designer passionate about sustainable design. This role offers the chance to lead diverse projects including healthcare, commercial, multifamily, and educational buildings. The position involves leading plumbing designs, supporting construction administration, and offers long-term career growth opportunities to build and lead a regional plumbing practice and shape standards and workflows. The Senior Plumbing Engineer/Designer will lead plumbing and process piping consulting and design efforts from Schematic Design through Construction Administration, responsible for system calculations, client consultation, technical design, interdisciplinary coordination, QA/QC, and mentoring junior staff. Collaboration with internal and external teams and site visits are regular aspects of the role. The ideal candidate is self-directed, solution-oriented, with strong communication and organizational skills, and committed to sustainable practices.
Requirements
- 5+ years in consulting, construction, or similar.
- Valid PE license or CPD certification.
- Proficient in Revit (BIM).
- Strong plumbing design experience (commercial, healthcare, process, multifamily residential and/or manufacturing).
- Clear communicator, organized, solution-oriented, able to work independently.
- Must be located within a commutable distance of Glumac’s Sacramento, San Francisco, or San Diego offices.
- Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis; this position is not eligible for current or future employment visa sponsorship.
Nice To Haves
- Medical gas or process piping experience (certifications a plus).
- LEED, LFA, or sustainability credentials (experience with water harvesting/treatment and heat pump water heaters a plus).
- Water treatment knowledge (experience with water softeners, descalers, interceptors, and similar treatment devices a plus).
- Fire protection knowledge (experience with wet/dry systems and dry-agent suppression systems a plus).
- Project Management, Business Development, or prior team leadership experience.
Responsibilities
- Lead plumbing piping designs and prepare construction documents.
- Perform plumbing calculations including: fixture counts, booster pump head, ejector pump head, domestic hot water loads (including heat pump design), storm water, condensate collection, etc.
- Coordinate with ownership, mechanical, electrical, structural, and architectural teams.
- Support Construction Administration: RFIs, submittal reviews, site visits, and field reports.
- Adhere to QA/QC policies and escalate issues as needed.
- Mentor junior engineers/designers and help grow the local plumbing team.
- Assist with Business Development (BD) opportunities when needed.
