Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Trade school training in plumbing.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a plumber, preferably in a healthcare facility.
  • Trained in the use of pipe treading machines.
  • Knowledge of identification of code required piping for domestic, waste and rain water.
  • Experienced in the maintenance of fire pump systems and controls, tamper switches and flow switches.
  • Able to use power and hand tools related to this discipline safely.
  • Trained in Standard Precautions for the prevention of communicable diseases related to this discipline.
  • Able to solder, braze and/or weld piping related to this discipline.
  • Complete understanding of relevant compliance and regulatory codes related to this discipline.

Nice To Haves

  • Medical gas piping is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains, repairs, installs and fabricates plumbing related equipment and systems to include valves, piping, pressure regulators, back flow preventers, strainers, fire sprinkler systems, grease traps, etc.
  • Provides oversight for contractor work performed on the campus as well as some project management responsibilities.
  • Performs Preventative Maintenance on equipment in his discipline on a scheduled basis.
  • Trouble shoots and diagnoses equipment for identification of deficiencies in operation.
  • Repairs equipment associated with these areas of discipline.
  • Prepares documentation related to the systematic preventative maintenance or repair of equipment in this area of discipline.
  • Assists in the maintenance of critical spares and repair parts for equipment in these disciplines.
  • Conducts periodic assessments/inventories of critical spare and general spare parts for systems.
  • Prepares proper purchase requisitions for acquiring these spares and repair parts in a timely fashion to ensure continuous repair efforts.
  • Ensures that all documentation related to return of damaged/defective parts is completed in a timely fashion to ensure proper credits are received.
  • Receives all materials related to purchases within 3 days of delivery and turns in all documentation at that time to ensure purchases are paid in a timely fashion.
  • Prepares and conducts risk assessment documentation for said projects.
  • Co-ordinates project meetings, schedules for installation/repair or inspection.
  • Compiles documentation related to same and distributes as required within the timelines required for compliance.
  • Manages and co-ordinates the required purchase order documentation required for such projects.
  • Assists contractors in research for utility shutdowns for repairs and new construction/renovations to reduce utility down times and impacts on patient care.
  • Observes new construction to ensure systems are properly installed and identified as required by code.
  • Reviews proposed project documentation and blue prints for accuracy and deficiencies.
  • Conducts periodic punch list inspections of new construction in areas of discipline.
  • Performs inspections to ensure proper installation and code compliance.
  • Prepares all documentation required for such inspections and punch lists in a timely and effective way.
  • Assists with emergency generator monthly test runs on a rotating basis.
  • Assists with general maintenance requirements, ie. Fire alarm, bed repair, etc.
  • Assists with weekend coverage on a rotating basis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
