About The Position

The Senior Plumber maintains, repairs, installs, and fabricates plumbing-related equipment and systems, including valves, piping, pressure regulators, backflow preventers, strainers, fire sprinkler systems, and grease traps. The position oversees contractor work performed on campus and has some project management responsibilities.

The role includes preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repairing systems, documenting maintenance and repairs, and managing critical spare parts and purchasing documentation. It also involves coordinating project meetings and schedules, preparing risk assessments, supporting utility shutdown planning, and observing construction to ensure systems are correctly installed and code-compliant. The Senior Plumber reviews project documents and blueprints, performs inspections and punch-list reviews, assists with monthly emergency generator test runs and general maintenance, and participates in rotating weekend coverage.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• At least five years of experience as a plumber; healthcare facility experience is preferred.
• Training in the use of pipe-threading machines.
• Ability to identify code-required piping for domestic water, waste, and rainwater systems.
• Experience maintaining fire pump systems and controls, tamper switches, and flow switches.
• Ability to safely use power and hand tools related to the plumbing discipline.
• Training in Standard Precautions for preventing communicable diseases related to the discipline.
• Ability to solder, braze, and/or weld piping.
• Complete understanding of relevant compliance and regulatory codes.

Nice To Haves

• Trade school training in plumbing.
• Experience as a plumber in a healthcare facility.
• Knowledge of medical gas piping.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, repair, install, and fabricate plumbing-related equipment and systems.
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on equipment within the plumbing discipline.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment deficiencies and repair associated equipment.
• Prepare documentation for preventive maintenance and equipment repairs.
• Maintain and periodically assess inventories of critical and general spare parts.
• Prepare purchase requisitions for spare and repair parts and complete documentation for returning damaged or defective parts.
• Receive purchased materials within three days of delivery and submit associated documentation.
• Manage projects, including preparing risk assessments, coordinating meetings and schedules, compiling and distributing documentation, and coordinating purchase-order documentation.
• Assist contractors with researching utility shutdowns for repairs and construction or renovation projects to reduce downtime and impacts on patient care.
• Observe new construction and inspect installations for proper installation and code compliance.
• Review proposed project documentation and blueprints for accuracy and deficiencies.
• Conduct periodic punch-list inspections of new construction and prepare required inspection documentation.
• Assist with monthly emergency generator test runs on a rotating basis.
• Assist with general maintenance requirements, including fire alarms and bed repair.
• Assist with weekend coverage on a rotating basis.
• Perform other duties as assigned and comply with Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
