About The Position

This role is for a Senior Platform Engineer who will be responsible for building and running the infrastructure that Yazio's Backend and Data Engineering teams deploy to every day. The position is 100% remote and open to candidates based in Germany, Spain, Portugal or the UK. The engineer will own and evolve the Kubernetes landscape, automate deployment and scaling, build observability tools, handle infrastructure-level incidents, and design abstractions for other engineering teams. They will also play a key role in the company's shift towards cloud-native infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Operated Kubernetes in production for years (upgrades, capacity planning, debugging the cluster itself).
  • Proficiency in Observability, GitOps, and deployment automation.
  • Comfortable on a Linux host and experienced in automating manual tasks.
  • Sufficient knowledge of databases (relational and key-value) and networking to reason through production issues.
  • Ability to thrive in a small team with changing priorities and minimal specification.
  • Strong communication skills for explaining complex technical trade-offs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Go (for tooling and Kubernetes ecosystem).
  • Experience with Python beyond simple scripting.
  • Experience running self-hosted databases in production, including replication and recovery.
  • Deep networking knowledge (TLS, TCP/UDP internals).
  • Experience operating on-prem Kubernetes with Rancher.
  • Experience with Kubernetes on GKE or AKS.

Responsibilities

  • Run and evolve our Kubernetes landscape (Amazon EKS, plus on-prem clusters via Rancher).
  • Automate deployment and scaling.
  • Guide engineering teams in getting the most out of automation.
  • Build out observability (metrics, dashboards, alerting).
  • Dig into infrastructure-level incidents and implement lasting fixes.
  • Design abstractions that allow Backend and Data Engineers to ship without opening a ticket.
  • Contribute to the decision-making process for moving self-hosted infrastructure to the cloud.
