About The Position

Peraton is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer, OpenShift & MuleSoft to join their team on the Department of State (DOS) Bureau of Diplomatic Technology (DT) Consular Affairs Enterprise Infrastructure Operations (CAEIO) program. This program provides IT Operations and Maintenance to modernize legacy networks, applications, and databases supporting consular applications and services globally. The role involves day-to-day operational support for installation, deployment, configuration, and maintenance of mission-critical applications. Key responsibilities include deploying and managing containerized applications using Red Hat OpenShift, supporting MuleSoft APIs and integration services, developing automation solutions with Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform (AAP), and configuring/supporting Service Mesh technologies. The engineer will troubleshoot complex issues, monitor application performance, support deployments and upgrades, create technical documentation, participate in incident response, and collaborate with cross-functional teams. An after-hours on-call rotation is also part of the role.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree and 8 years of experience or an Associates degree and 10 years of experience or a High School diploma/equivalent and 12 years of experience.
  • U.S. Citizenship and an active SECRET Government Security Clearance.
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience with OpenShift, including enterprise-grade cluster administration.
  • 3+ years of experience working with MuleSoft Anypoint Platform and deployment and managing APIs under OpenShift.
  • Extensive experience in Jenkins and understanding CI/CD pipeline design and automation scripting.
  • Strong proficiency with Ansible and Ansible Automation Platform (AAP) for infrastructure and application automation.
  • In-depth understanding of OpenShift security practice and tools (RBAC, SCCs, network policies, secrets, container image scanning).
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills across to full stack – containers, APIs, integration, network, OS, and database layers.
  • Experience with SQL queries -- specifically, debug in support of integration flows and platform diagnostics.
  • Experience in multiple monitoring tools, such as Splunk, AppDynamics and Zabbix.
  • Proven ability to manage production support in fast-paced, changing environments.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and collaboration skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including nights and weekends for unplanned maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Self-driven, adaptable, and capable of meeting deadlines independently.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AWS Cloud Services, such as CloudWatch.
  • Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration.
  • MuleSoft Certified Developer/Integration Architect.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day to day operational support for the installation, deployment, configuration, and maintenance of mission critical applications within the CA Applications Support environment.
  • Deploy, manage, and troubleshoot containerized applications using Red Hat OpenShift to ensure high availability, scalability, and operational stability.
  • Support and maintain MuleSoft APIs and integration services to enable secure and reliable communication between enterprise applications.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain automation solutions using Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform (AAP) to streamline system administration and application deployment processes.
  • Configure and support Service Mesh technologies to manage microservices traffic, security, service discovery, and observability.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex application, platform, and infrastructure issues while working closely with engineering, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and development teams.
  • Monitor application performance, identify operational issues, and implement corrective actions to improve system reliability and performance.
  • Support application deployments, upgrades, patches, and production releases while following established change management and configuration management processes.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, standard operating procedures, deployment guides, and system configuration documentation.
  • Participate in root cause analysis, incident response, and problem management activities to restore service and prevent recurring issues.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to evaluate new technologies, improve operational processes, and support continuous service improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in an after hours on call rotation and provide production support during maintenance windows, system outages, and other critical operational events as required.
