About The Position

This is a Senior Planner position with the Development Services Department (Transportation Review Team). The ideal candidate shall have strong practical experience of at least two years in all aspects of site development review and land development rezoning proposals. The candidate shall have knowledge of transportation planning practices and experience doing public presentations to various groups. AICP certification is preferred but not required.

Requirements

• Must be able to effectively manage a high volume, multiple deadline case load.
• Strong practical experience in all aspects of site development review.
• Experience reviewing and analyzing land development and rezoning proposals.
• Experience drafting presentations and presenting to multiple stakeholders, including homeowners, industry representatives and elected officials.
• Familiar with the Land Development Codes and Transportation Technical Manuals.
• Knowledgeable of Transportation Planning Practices.
• Master’s Degree; AND Two years of experience directly related to the position duties; OR An equivalent combination of education (not less than possession of a high school diploma/GED), training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies.
• Knowledge of comprehensive planning principles and practices.
• Knowledge of data collection methods and statistical analysis techniques.
• Knowledge of laws and regulations governing comprehensive planning.
• Skill in making presentations to groups.
• Ability to proof own work and the work of others.
• Ability to prioritize work.
• Ability to work effectively with others.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Ability to plan and oversee the work of others.
• Ability to collect, organize and evaluate data and to develop logical conclusions, reports and presentations.

Nice To Haves

• AICP certification is preferred but not required.
• Master’s degree desirable.

Responsibilities

• Functions as a project or team leader in the accomplishment of duties.
• Collects, summarizes, analyzes, and presents facts and trends for use in evaluating land development proposals and community growth and development plans, studies and reports.
• Conducts studies to be used in plans and reports relating to land use, economic bases, transportation systems, utility systems, community facilities, population, housing, and neighborhood plans and programs.
• Writes drafts of zoning, subdivision, and other land development regulations.
• Writes future land use, transportation, community facility plans, and other elements of a comprehensive plan.
• Summarizes, analyzes, and presents data for use in the development of capital improvement plans and programs.
• Oversees the activities of others in preparing plans, studies and reports.
• Makes public presentations on plans, studies and reports.
• Performs other related duties as required.
