About The Position

Niagara College is seeking a temporary part-time Senior Placement Officer for the School of Community Services. This role, located at the Daniel J. Patterson Campus, involves supporting and evaluating students in the Early Childhood Education – Resource Consulting (ECE-RC) program during their field placements. The Senior Placement Officer will supervise student performance, conduct formal assessments of competency development, and provide feedback to foster professional growth. The incumbent will ensure students meet program learning outcomes and professional standards by integrating theory into practice, and will also act as a resource to placement agencies. The starting salary for this position is $41.36 per hour for a 24-hour work week, with potential for additional hours during peak times. Requirements

  • Minimum 2 year diploma in Early Childhood Education
  • Graduate Certificate in ECE – Resource Consulting
  • Relevant professional designation in ECE – Resource Consulting
  • Minimum 5 years of related, progressive experience in early childhood education and/or resource consulting with experience in the vocational program field
  • Demonstrated expertise in ECE-RC assessment and implementation practices
  • Proven ability to evaluate performance, apply competency frameworks, and support student learning in field settings
  • Strong relationship-building skills with students, faculty, and community partners
  • Excellent organizational, documentation, and assessment/reporting skills
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement in complex situations involving student performance and placement suitability
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and student/learning management systems

Responsibilities

  • Managing and coordinating field placements, including scheduling, documentation, and student eligibility requirements (e.g., clearances, health records)
  • Maintaining and updating placement databases and establishing new placement sites
  • Ensuring all placement documentation is complete
  • Conducting orientation sessions for students and placement agencies
  • Maintaining accurate student records and submitting placement grades, including follow-up on incomplete grades
  • Collaborating with faculty and leadership to implement updates to placement processes and program requirements
  • Participating in program recruitment, promotional activities, and community/professional engagement
  • Providing direct oversight of students in field placements and monitoring application of ECE–Resource Consulting practices
  • Conducting formal, structured evaluations of student competency, task mastery, and achievement of learning outcomes within field placement
  • Delivering timely, constructive feedback to support skill development and reflective practice
  • Collaborating with host agencies and acting as a subject matter expert where specialized assessment support is required
  • Determining when intervention is necessary, including recommending remediation, placement changes, or withdrawal in consultation with the Associate Dean
