Senior Perception Engineer
About The Position
We are seeking a highly motivated Software Engineer to join the Stretch Perception and Machine Learning (PerML) team. In this role, you will play an important role in building, maintaining, and expanding a successful product that is already solving problems outside of the lab for customers around the world. We are seeking a Perception Engineer to join our Stretch PerML (Perception and Machine Learning) team to work on a robot that is already deployed with customers around the word. In this role, you will help build, maintain, and improve the perception systems on the production robot fleet. You will work with experienced engineers, learn from real field data. Our team works on: Perception systems: object detection, localization, state estimation, and calibration. Supporting infrastructure: sensor drivers, debugging and visualization tools, logging, and off-robot data processing pipelines. Quality and reliability: regular robot testing, performance analysis, and continuous improvement of what we deliver to customers.
Requirements
- BS or MS in Computer Science, Robotics or a related field.
- 1-3+ years of industry experience, or substantial internship, co-op, research, or project experience.
- Strong software development skills, including C++ and Python, with knowledge of best practices.
- Ability to explain technical results and trade-offs clearly to teammates, in writing and in person.
- Curiosity and a hands-on approach to debugging problems on real hardware and data.
Responsibilities
- Apply robotics and computer vision techniques to solve real problems on Stretch.
- Harden existing perception approaches to make them more robust in varied warehouse conditions.
- Evaluate performance through robot testing and data analysis, and turn findings into improvements.
- Write efficient, testable, maintainable C++ (and Python for tooling and analysis) code.
- Collaborate with teammates on PerML and with adjacent teams such as controls, manipulation, and Platform.
