Requirements

  • Proven 5 to 7 plus years of experience as a Payroll Analyst in a multi-provincial setting, or similar role.
  • Hands-on experience with Payroll and HR software (UKG and Workday experience a plus).
  • Working knowledge of federal and provincial payroll and tax regulations
  • Strong Excel and database reporting skills required.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills with the ability to translate analytical findings into actionable solutions.
  • Ability to work accurately and efficiently under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to details

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with an outsourced managed payroll service a plus.
  • US payroll experience a plus
  • Ability to communicate in French is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Driving the processing of weekly and bi-weekly payrolls per established company procedures and Canadian legislative requirements, ensuring accuracy and timeliness across multiple provinces.
  • Prepare and submit all necessary files to Payroll provider for special earnings, deductions, benefits, and imputed income transactions.
  • Apply appropriate provincial/territorial employment standards when processing premium pay, vacation pay, statutory holiday pay, retroactive adjustments, and other earnings.
  • Oversee payroll adjustment transactions, including corrections to year-to-date amounts and preparation of year-end documentation, such as T4s, T4A slips, Relevé 1 (QC), and amending slips (T4A/RL-1 amendments) as required.
  • Assist in legal, tax and internal audit requirements with preparation of required documentation.
  • Support compliance activities including CRA, Revenue Québec (if applicable), Service Canada, and internal/external audit requests by preparing required documentation, reconciliations, and reports.
  • Analyze compensation, tax, and payroll data to troubleshoot issues, resolve discrepancies, and ensure correct application of CPP/QPP, EI, provincial taxes, employer health taxes (e.g., EHT in Ontario), and Workers’ Compensation premiums across jurisdictions.
  • Manage payroll banking with BMO and UKG.
  • Prepare reports and forecasts for senior management and others in the organization as requested.
  • Assist senior management team with projects as needed, including streamlining and automation of processes, and implementation of payroll best practices.
