The Christman Company is looking for a Senior Payroll Specialist in our Lansing, Michigan office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related job field.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in payroll and benefits.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience with job costing, prevailing wage, and union environments.
  • Familiarity with payroll software, human capital management systems, and MS Office with an emphasis in Excel knowledge.
  • Equivalent combination of the above education, training, and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related job field.
  • Solid knowledge of FMLA, HIPAA, COBRA, and other benefit related regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Provides inputs with regard to tracking payroll services measuring timeliness and accuracy of payroll partners and also measuring internal performance to drive efficiency in the end-to-end process.
  • Ensures accurate accounting and reporting on all payroll related feeds to finance. Performs and oversees accurate, correct, and timely payroll reconciliations and audits, and troubleshoots any issues that arise.
  • Prepares payroll audits and advises the payroll department on complex transactions.
  • Maintain data integrity in our human capital management and payroll systems daily. Resolves any discrepancies surrounding payroll issues.
  • Determines and produce reports needed to prevent and detect issues that could affect taxation and payroll.
  • Fulfills wage garnishment requirements by completing forms; adjusting payroll records, documenting, and transmitting withholdings; negotiating with collection agencies to convert garnishments to wage assignments.
  • Remits tax payments by collecting and verifying data; preparing federal, state, and local tax reports, and W2 statements; initiating payment.
  • Trains team members on new and enhanced operation procedures and policies.
  • Identifies process improvement initiatives and define standards for new department processes.
  • Provides coverage for team members as a back-up role for vacations and/or high-volume work efforts.
  • Supervises and coaches payroll specialists, and provides training and guidance as needed.
  • Assists with the annual benefit open enrollment process.
