About The Position

The Senior Payroll and Tax Specialist is responsible for processing payroll accurately and in a timely manner, with a primary focus on DG Payrolls, Puerto Rico, and Canada. This role requires strong knowledge of Canadian payroll processing and managing payroll tax returns for all Pattern Entities. This includes managing quarterly filings, downloading from the HCM System (ADP WFN), reviewing and reconciling filings, analyzing and resolving variances, and investigating and responding to agency notices. The specialist will monitor and interpret changes to tax and employment regulations, ensuring Pattern's compliance with new and existing regulations under the direction of the Payroll Manager. This position has a significant impact on achieving business objectives such as employee retention, engagement, and positive survey ratings, and provides service to the entire employee population.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in Payroll, HR, Benefits, and Payroll Tax across multiple industries, including multi-state U.S. payroll processing.
  • Experience processing Canadian payroll and knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, taxes, and year-end reporting (T4s, ROEs, provincial requirements) is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources, Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • Recent experience with ADP Workforce Now is strongly preferred.
  • Extensive experience with payroll tax preparation, reconciliation, agency notice resolution, and tax compliance.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and analytical abilities with a proven track record of accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks and meet critical deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally at all levels of the organization.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, and data analysis functions.

  • Active member of PayrollOrg (formerly the American Payroll Association) and participation in a local payroll chapter preferred.
  • Payroll certifications and ongoing continuing education in payroll, tax, and compliance.
