About The Position

The Senior Patient Access Representative serves as a liaison between patients, families, physicians and medical support staff. This position would entail scheduling for Orthopedics and Podiatry. Orthopedics is a face paced department with various specialty providers. The Senior Patient Access Representative collaborates with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure medical services are appropriately scheduled for patients. This role requires a depth of knowledge of the service line to proficiently review procedure/surgery orders, as well as appropriately schedule all necessary resources to perform the procedure/surgery. The representative is responsible for resource management and resolving conflicts, and serves as a liaison between providers and supporting providers. They also manage provider schedules. Additionally, they may collaborate with patients and providers to demonstrate medical necessity to insurance companies and obtain required prior authorization. This role may also perform registration duties and work the front desk, train and mentor new employees, and serve as an electronic medical record (EMR) super user. The position requires professionalism, a respectful and cooperative atmosphere, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information. Problem-solving and critical thinking skills are essential, with the ability to seek guidance from leadership when appropriate. Proficiency in computer skills and the use of a multi-line telephone is necessary.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous medical office experience preferred
  • Prior electronic medical records (EMR) experience is preferred
  • Must have knowledge of medical terminology
  • Customer service skills essential
  • Six months' customer service experience desired
