About The Position

This on-site position in Washington, DC, supports a fast-moving litigation environment with multiple cases in discovery. The role involves handling evidence and chain of custody requirements, supporting pre-indictment activities, and managing data within Relativity workspaces. Collaboration with other agencies and multiple trial/litigation teams is expected. Work products are often developed with minimal direct supervision, adhering to written guidelines. In addition to standard paralegal functions, this role includes moderately complex legal research, summarizing transcripts, reviewing case materials for inconsistencies, and drafting preliminary legal memoranda and correspondence. The position also involves compiling documents for FOIA requests, production requests, and Congressional inquiries. Travel may be required.

Requirements

  • Paralegal certificate, or JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school with at least one year of study completed, or an equivalent level of education (five years of legal training or experience).
  • At least two years of litigation paralegal experience or project experience (as related to the task order).
  • Strong Discovery management skills.
  • Supporting data management in Relativity.
  • Evidence tracking and general discovery status reporting.
  • At least one year of experience in automated litigation support.
  • Sound working knowledge of federal and state court system, legal research procedures, and legal research resources.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of legal research tools.
  • Hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.
  • Hands-on familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.
  • Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain MRPT facility credentials/authorization.
  • US Citizenship is required for MRPT facility credentials/authorization.

Responsibilities

  • Handling of evidence and chain of custody requirements.
  • Supporting pre-indictment activities including database searches and reporting status to case teams.
  • Supporting data management within Relativity workspaces.
  • Collaborating with other agencies outside of DOJ.
  • Collaborating and supporting multiple trial teams and multiple litigation case teams.
  • Performing moderately complex legal research.
  • Synopsizing transcripts of hearings and oral arguments for attorney use.
  • Reviewing case related materials and identifying potentially conflicting statements or areas requiring further investigation.
  • Writing preliminary drafts of simple legal memoranda and correspondence.
  • Compiling, preparing, and summarizing relevant materials for discovery and preparation of motions, briefs, and other legal documents.
  • Summarizing depositions and other transcripts.
  • Maintaining case files.
  • Indexing, tracking, and controlling document discovery (including documents produced and received).
  • Indexing, tracking, and exhibits and other materials at depositions and at trial.
  • Preparing exhibit cross-references.
  • Assisting attorneys in the courtroom.
  • Reviewing documents for relevance and privilege according to established guidelines and criteria.
  • Compiling documents for FOIA, production requests, Congressional inquiries, etc.
