About The Position

Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, one of the world’s leading global law firms with offices in strategic hubs of commerce, law, and government across North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, is seeking to hire a Senior Paralegal. This role will report to the group’s Manager of Legal Practice Support and will support the Energy and Project Development (EPD) team by conducting legal research, drafting legal documents, and preparing correspondence for eFiling with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission and relevant statutory entities. This role involves compliance support and case management for utility regulation and energy transactions. This position will reside in the Philadelphia office with a hybrid in-office/remote working schedule.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience preferably in an energy/utility setting or with experience in energy/utility practice.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications; experience with Westlaw and Lexis platforms.
  • Ability to draft clear, concise, and effective legal documents and correspondence.
  • Strong ability to convey information effectively through spoken interactions.
  • Experience in managing team dynamics and fostering a positive work environment.
  • Ability to build and maintain professional relationships with colleagues and clients.
  • Proficiency in planning and executing case strategies focusing on long-term outcomes.
  • Demonstrated initiative and drive to take on responsibilities and tasks independently.

Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys in all phases of project development by drafting and editing legal correspondence, memoranda, affidavits, and other legal documents, including Motions, Petitions, Testimony, Briefs, and Settlements.
  • Conduct thorough factual and legal research, including statutes, administrative codes, and regulatory agency decisions, to support case strategies.
  • Prepare and file regulatory submissions with state and federal agencies while monitoring and tracking filings, deadlines, and docket entries, ensuring proper calendaring with the Firm Litigation Docketing Department.
  • Coordinate and compile extensive documentation required for major rate cases, applications, and petitions, ensuring compliance with legal standards.
  • Participate in case strategy sessions and provide insights based on research and analysis.
  • Create and accurately maintain litigation support databases and case management systems to organize key documents for cases, utilizing technology effectively.
  • Develop and manage Discovery platforms for major rate cases, ensuring accessibility and proper handling of confidential materials while coordinating with clients for timely document uploads.
  • Assist in preparing for public input or evidentiary hearings, including preparation of exhibits and reviewing and correcting transcripts.
  • Support witness preparation for cross-examinations by creating comprehensive witness binders for hearings.
  • Mentor and train more junior Legal Practice Support and Administrative staff to foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
  • Attend technology education programs, firm-sponsored webinars, and internal team meetings to stay current and ensure best practices.
  • Assist with practice group administrative projects as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
