About The Position

Horizon Services is building its Legal, Risk & Compliance function and seeks an experienced Senior Paralegal to serve as the team's operational backbone. The role owns matters from intake to resolution, working with direction from the General Counsel rather than close supervision. It focuses on managing auto, general liability, and workers’ compensation claims and related litigation across a multi-state, multi-entity field services business. The Senior Paralegal works with the Senior Disability & Leave Manager, broker, third-party administrator (TPA), carriers, and defense counsel to resolve matters efficiently and cost-effectively.

The position also supports the corporate insurance program, contract administration, and lease administration across the company’s location portfolio. It contributes to building repeatable processes, trackers, and technology for a growing Legal, Risk & Compliance function, and provides backup coverage for the General Counsel.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of paralegal experience, in-house or defense-side, with substantial claims and litigation management experience.
• Hands-on experience managing auto/fleet, general liability, and/or workers’ compensation claims, including litigated claims, while working directly with TPAs, carriers, brokers, and defense counsel.
• Solid understanding of reserving, the claim lifecycle, settlement, and subrogation.
• Experience supporting corporate risk management, including insurance programs, certificates of insurance, and contractual risk transfer.
• Strong analytical skills, including the ability to turn claims data into clear, decision-ready summaries.
• Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills.
• Advanced Excel skills and comfort with claims portals and data systems.
• A Bachelor's degree or Paralegal Certificate, or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
• Sound judgment, ability to prioritize by exposure, flag issues early, and bring recommendations.
• Ability to work with branch managers and technicians as well as lawyers.
• Ability to build processes and maintain accurate trackers.
• Discretion in handling confidential and privileged information.

Nice To Haves

• Commercial real estate or lease administration experience across a multi-location portfolio.
• Experience in field services, construction, home services, or fleet-based businesses.
• Experience with matter management, contract lifecycle, or claims management systems.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the day-to-day contact for the TPA, carriers, and broker on auto, general liability, and workers’ compensation claims, in partnership with the Senior Disability & Leave Manager.
• Manage open claims by monitoring reserves, tracking claim aging, requesting action plans, and escalating high-exposure matters.
• Prepare for claim reviews, roundtables, and settlement discussions.
• Coordinate first notice of loss and incident reporting from the field.
• Partner with HR and operations on return-to-work and light-duty programs.
• Build monthly and quarterly claims dashboards and trend reports for leadership and the Board.
• Identify subrogation and recovery opportunities and pursue them.
• Manage litigated matters with the General Counsel and outside counsel, tracking strategy, deadlines, and exposure.
• Maintain the litigation calendar and critical-date tracking.
• Issue legal holds, coordinate discovery, and process subpoenas.
• Draft discovery responses, pleadings, and correspondence; prepare deposition, mediation, and trial materials.
• Help manage outside counsel, including reviewing invoices against budgets and billing guidelines.
• Support the corporate insurance program, including renewals, underwriting submissions, and policy tracking.
• Hold the broker, TPA, and carriers to service and reporting expectations.
• Manage certificates of insurance, additional-insured requests, and contractual risk transfer.
• Maintain loss runs and risk data for renewals and due diligence.
• Support vendor and subcontractor onboarding and train field leaders on incident reporting.
• Run contract intake, maintain templates and the contract repository, and draft routine agreements.
• Maintain lease abstracts and critical dates, and manage renewals ahead of deadlines.
• Help build repeatable processes, trackers, and technology for a growing function.
• Support license renewals and provide backup coverage for the General Counsel.
