Requirements

  • Ability to compute paint mixture formulas.
  • Ability to adjust and regulate paint shop equipment controls.
  • Thorough knowledge of spray, brush, and dip painting techniques and surface preparation.
  • Ability to lay out sophisticated designs and create designs from sketches or verbal instructions.
  • Ability to conceptualize design dimensions.
  • Knowledge of, and ability to apply, various types of urethane finishes using spray and brush.
  • Ability to adjust spray paint equipment for optimal results.
  • Ability to operate sandblast equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret specifications and paint scheme designs.
  • Ability to apply shop mathematics.
  • Must meet personal tool requirements.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 7–10 years of painting experience in aerospace, automotive, or industrial work.
  • Skilled with HVLP and other advanced spray systems.
  • Able to create or interpret detailed paint designs.
  • Knows safety rules for painting, chemicals, and respirators.
  • Can work independently and lead others.
  • Strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Lays out paint designs and positions them accurately on helicopter surfaces.
  • Creates or assists in creating design layouts and design dimensions.
  • Masks and protects areas not to be painted or to achieve required design effects.
  • Implements proper usage of painting equipment, including brushes, siphon guns, and HVLP top-load guns.
  • Prepares surfaces for painting, including removing old paint using paint remover and scraper as necessary.
  • Paints helicopters using spray guns and brushes; performs final touch-up work.
  • Computes paint mixture formulas and adjusts controls on paint booths and other painting equipment.
  • Operates sandblast equipment as required.
  • Maintains painting tools, equipment, and air masks.
  • Trains other workers and serves as a consultation resource.
  • Observes all safety regulations.
  • Performs other duties as required.
