The person in this role will be based at the Medtronic facility located in North Haven, Connecticut. As a Senior Packaging Engineer, you will lead and oversee the research, development, and design of packaging systems, materials, and packaging technology for new and existing medical devices. In this role, you will provide expertise and guidance in the various areas of packaging engineering to the department internal and external business partners. You will interact with multidisciplinary groups including R&D, Operations, Labeling, Tooling/Automation, Sourcing, and Marketing to provide unparalleled, leading edge packaging solutions in support of Operating Unit strategic goals and achieving desired results. You will drive new levels of packaging excellence across global locations to ensure long term manufacturing efficiency, quality, and regulatory compliance. Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience with a bachelor’s degree or 2+ years of experience with an advanced degree
  • For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.
  • The employee is regularly required to be independently mobile.
  • The employee is also required to interact with a computer, and communicate with peers and co-workers.
  • Roles below the Principal level require candidates to possess unrestricted U.S. work authorization at the time of hire and for the duration of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Packaging Science, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering
  • Experience working in medical device or pharmaceutical industry

Responsibilities

  • Develop packaging design and testing for Robotics capital device, Field replaceable units (FRU’s) and related batteries.
  • Develop packaging solutions to complex projects in a multidisciplinary and collaborative environment as part of New Product Development and engineering programs
  • Drive packaging development projects to ensure strong competitive ability and fulfillment of customer needs
  • Support strategic Operations Network initiatives
  • Provide guidance and leadership to Packaging Engineers with varying degrees of technical expertise and professional experience
  • Evaluate the current state of various medical devices package designs; perform gap assessments, develop, and execute remediation plans
  • Support quality audits and regulatory affairs technical file submissions
  • Author technical deficiency responses and drives compliance to industry regulation requirements
  • Determine packaging specifications according to the nature of the product, cost limitations, legal requirements, and the type of device protection required
  • Lead successful verification of packaging systems for medical devices
  • Author and execute packaging protocols and operational procedures
  • Manage multiple projects and drive multi-disciplined cross functional global teams to effectively complete tasks on schedule.
  • Keep up to date on new packaging technologies and provide project and functional leadership to champion new materials or technology and recommend for consideration
