About The Position

Mesa Associates, Inc. is seeking a Protection & Control Designer with 8 years of design-related experience to join their team and prepare and review P&C design packages. The ideal candidate will have at least 8 years of experience designing protection & control systems for high/medium/low voltage substations. Candidates with instrumentation & process controls experience will also be considered. This role requires knowledge and skillsets associated with designing systems that utilize protection & control relays, metering, instrument transformers (CTs/PTs), power transformers, AC auxiliary power, as well as DC/Battery controls. Proficiency in generating drawings such as One Lines, AC/DC Schematics/Elementaries, Wiring/Connections, and Front/Rear View Panel/Eqpt Layouts using AutoCAD and/or Microstation design software packages is essential. Ideal candidates will possess a learning mindset and be self-starters.

Requirements

• 8 years of design related experience
• At least 8 years of experience designing protection & control systems for high/medium/low voltage substations
• Knowledge and skillsets associated with designing systems that utilize protection & control relays, metering, instrument transformers (CTs/PTs), power transformers, AC auxiliary power, as well as DC/Battery controls
• Thorough experience in generating drawings such as One Lines, AC/DC Schematics/Elementaries, Wiring/Connections and Front/Rear View Panel/Eqpt Layouts using AutoCAD and/or Microstation design software packages
• Demonstrates a working knowledge of using design software tools (Bluebeam, AutoCAD, MicroStation, etc.) to create/prepare/modify design drawings.
• Is a team player.

• Is well organized and keeps work area clean and free of clutter.
• Has a questioning mindset and attitude.
• Possesses and demonstrates on a regular basis the ability to read, understand and create all protection & control design drawings (Single Line, AC/DC Schematic, Elementary and Connection diagrams, Front & Rear View Layout/Elevation drawings, Bills of Material, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Effectively and efficiently collaborates with other design team members to complete work assignments.
• Performs a self-check on all work assignments prior to returning them to the checker and performs assignments with little to no errors and within allotted budgets/schedules.
• Develop and/or assist in the development or check of AC Schematics, DC Schematics, Panel Layouts, Wiring/Connection diagrams, and Bills of Materials.
• Proficient at leading and instructing design team members on a project level.
• Collaborates effectively and efficiently with multi-discipline departments on all projects.
• P&C design for substations ranging from 12kV to 500kV.
• Properly apply client's substation design standards to the work.
• Successfully work on multiple projects concurrently.
• Professionally handle client communications and relationships.
