About The Position

fab2 is seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Optomechanical Engineer to join their Precision Team. This role is for someone who has internalized precision machine design as a discipline and has a proven track record of rapidly prototyping complex optical systems and advancing them to the next stage of production. The team's philosophy is to get things built and tested in days or weeks, not months. The core responsibility of the job is the design, assembly, testing, and debugging of new electromechanical and optical systems. You’ll be responsible for building new systems as well as integrating off-the-shelf products, such as motion stages and metrology equipment.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering.
• 6+ years of industry experience in electromechanical or optics system design and analysis
• Working fluency in precision machine design fundamentals: exact-constraint design, kinematic couplings, flexures, error budgeting, structural loops, tolerance analysis
• Mechanical 3D CAD experience
• Experience designing and simulating optical systems (Zemax preferred)

Nice To Haves

• Formal training in precision engineering
• Experience at an early-stage startup
• Familiarity with firmware, controls, or electrical engineering

Responsibilities

• Design, prototype, and develop precision electro-mechanical/optical components and systems
• Build new systems and integrate off-the-shelf products, such as motion stages and metrology equipment.
• Perform detailed analysis and simulations to evaluate system designs and meet constraints
• Work with suppliers to source components and materials
