About The Position

We are seeking a Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, development, and integration of precision opto-mechanical systems for advanced free-space optical (FSO) communication platforms. The ideal candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop innovative optical hardware for aerospace, defense, and next-generation communication technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in opto-mechanical design or precision mechanical engineering.
  • Strong experience with SolidWorks, Creo, or similar 3D CAD software.
  • Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, FEA, vibration, and thermal design.
  • Experience designing precision optical or electro-mechanical systems.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and product development.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with laser systems, free-space optical communications (FSO), LiDAR, aerospace, defense, or photonics.
  • Hands-on experience with optical alignment, integration, and laboratory testing.
  • Familiarity with optical simulation and analysis tools.
  • Experience supporting environmental qualification testing (vibration, thermal vacuum, shock).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced R&D environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design precision opto-mechanical assemblies, optical benches, mounts, enclosures, and support structures.
  • Develop 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Perform tolerance stack-up analysis, thermal analysis, and structural/FEA analysis.
  • Lead the integration and alignment of optical components and subsystems.
  • Collaborate with optical, electrical, systems, and manufacturing engineers throughout product development.
  • Support prototype builds, testing, troubleshooting, and product validation.
  • Develop fixtures, tooling, and assembly procedures for precision optical systems.
  • Participate in design reviews and ensure products meet performance, manufacturability, and quality requirements.
