Ciena’s Photonic Components Assembly Processes group develops and industrializes advanced optical assembly solutions that enable next‑generation photonic products. This role contributes to manufacturing readiness, product quality, and scalable production through ownership of optical assembly processes from development to transfer.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant Engineering field
  • 5+ years of experience in a related field
  • Application of hands‑on problem solving with strong attention to detail
  • Application of technical, scientific, and experimental problem‑solving methods
  • Experience programming manufacturing equipment
  • Application of CAD software in an engineering or manufacturing context
  • Demonstrated teamwork and professional communication skills
  • Experience managing projects under tight timelines
  • Fluency in English and French
  • Willingness to travel internationally on an occasional basis

Nice To Haves

  • Background in photonics, optoelectronics, or silicon photonics manufacturing environments, including cleanroom or micro‑assembly exposure
  • Application of data‑driven process optimization and manufacturing quality methods (e.g., SPC, DOE, FMEA)
  • Experience working with automation platforms and contract manufacturing partners in high‑precision production settings

Responsibilities

  • Develop and industrialize optical assembly processes and systems from concept through start‑up and certification
  • Lead definition of equipment specifications, performance requirements, and integration proposals for optical assembly machinery
  • Integrate automation and tooling solutions in collaboration with internal engineering teams, suppliers, and contractors
  • Execute experimental testing in cleanroom environments to evaluate and optimize optical assembly processes and equipment
  • Oversee equipment installation, site acceptance testing, and transfer to contract manufacturing operations
  • Own and optimize complete product assembly flows, including active optical alignment and passive optical and mechanical assembly sequences
  • Analyze assemblies from contract manufacturing partners and identify process improvement opportunities.
