About The Position

The Senior Operations Manager leads the operations of a department within Koch Trucking. You will coordinate equipment, drivers, and freight to maximize customer service, equipment utilization, and driver productivity. This role also carries full responsibility for the division’s operational performance and profitability.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 12 years of experience in the trucking or transportation industry.
  • 10 years of management experience leading teams in a transportation environment.
  • Strong knowledge of driver management, freight lanes, rates, hours of service, and DOT compliance.
  • Proven experience managing customer relationships, employee relations, and profit and loss operations.
  • Proficiency in Windows-based software and fleet KPI reporting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to sit for up to 90% of the workday using a computer, phone, keyboard, and mouse
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and stoop for the remaining time
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds

Nice To Haves

  • Post-secondary education in Supply Chain, Business Administration, Logistics, or a related field.
  • Additional experience with brokered freight and customer contract management.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain systems to coordinate freight, ensuring delivery capabilities and maximizing profitability.
  • Manage company drivers and support staff within assigned geographic regions.
  • Optimize utilization of equipment and drivers to increase profitability and service quality.
  • Analyze production reports, KPIs, and financials to ensure departmental success.
  • Provide strategic direction, including input into long-term planning initiatives.
  • Review rates and customer bids to maintain and improve profit margins.
  • Lead division profit and loss analysis and decision-making.
  • Partner with Safety, Risk Management, Recruiting, Maintenance, Driver Settlement, Billing, and Human Resources for operational support and compliance.
  • Monitor and report on fleet metrics using Excel and KPI tools.
  • Regularly meet with leadership to discuss operational goals, financial performance, and strategic updates.
  • Serve as a representative of the Company, displaying courtesy, tact, consideration, and discretion in all interactions with other members of the Koch community, customers and with the public.
  • Cross training as required.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.
  • Managers are responsible for leading, developing, and supporting their direct reports. This includes setting clear expectations, providing consistent feedback, and ensuring employees understand their role in meeting business needs.
  • You coach employees to build capability, address performance concerns promptly, and document conversations when expectations are not met.
  • You hold regular one-on-one check-ins to stay aligned on workload, priorities, and development needs.
  • You guide employees through performance reviews, goal setting, and ongoing progress updates throughout the year.
  • You reinforce company values through your day-to-day decisions and how you communicate with your team.
  • You ensure your employees follow all policies, safety requirements, and operational standards.
  • You maintain a fair and respectful work environment, take concerns seriously, and escalate issues when needed.
  • You build trust by being accessible, following through, and supporting employees through change.
