Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, logistics, business administration, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Three to five years of experience in transportation management, with a focus on chill and/or frozen transportation operations is preferred.
  • Certification in warehouse management and/or cold chain logistics (e.g., CSCP, GCCC) is preferred.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of cold chain logistics principles.
  • Analytical skills and the ability to interpret data.
  • Effective problem solving and communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic, self-motivation, and positive attitude.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, manage time efficiently, and attend to details.
  • Delivery schedules, order inputs, selection, hours of service, overtime, attendance and punctuality are essential job functions.

Nice To Haves

  • Three to five years of experience in transportation management, with a focus on chill and/or frozen transportation operations.
  • Certification in warehouse management and/or cold chain logistics (e.g., CSCP, GCCC).

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and coordinates all activities within a multi-temperature transportation operation.
  • Forecasts daily and weekly equipment needs.
  • Manages the budgeting and financial forecasting process for transportation.
  • Manages a routing team and the daily routing functions.
  • Manages frontline managers.
  • Coordinates 3rd party transportation needs, including daily servicing of our business, forecasting equipment needs.
  • Strives to maximize the efficiency of the operation through KPI management, such as routed cube per trailer, cost per load, cost per mile, and transportation expense % sales.
  • Partners with DC operations leadership to ensure the timely flow of merchandise to stores daily.
  • Optimizes daily routing to maximize cube per trailer and minimize transportation expense.
  • Coordinates store delivery schedules with Store Operations partners.
  • Communicates to stores and store operations partners daily delivery ETAs and any delivery delays that arise.
  • Manages the outbound spend for all transportation activities.
  • Updates reports and other spreadsheets to track KPIs and all financial metrics associated with transportation.
  • Manages transportation transitions between DCs and carriers.
  • Responds and addresses issues related to transportation and customer service needs.
  • Leads and motivates a team of transportation frontline managers and transportation associates.
  • Provides guidance, training, and performance feedback to ensure a high level of efficiency, accuracy, and quality in the transportation department.
  • Ensures compliance with logistical standards and regulations including but not limited temperature monitoring, product traceability, and quality control measures.
  • Enforces safety protocols and quality assurance standards, conducting regular inspections, audits, and training sessions to mitigate risks and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvement in transportation operations across all temperature zones.
  • Implements efficiency enhancements and streamline workflows to increase efficiency and reduce operational costs.
  • Utilizes transportation management systems (TMS) and temperature monitoring devices to monitor trailer temperatures.
  • Manages relationships with suppliers, carriers, and service providers involved in product transportation and storage.
  • Collaborates with customer service teams to address customer inquiries, resolve delivery discrepancies, and provide timely updates on order status and delivery schedules.
  • Develops and manages the budget for transportation operations.
  • Monitors expenses and allocates resources effectively to support operational requirements and strategic initiatives.
  • Drives continuous improvement initiatives in transportation operations leveraging data analysis, feedback from stakeholders, and industry best practices to enhance efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction.
