About The Position

OUC - The Reliable One, is presently seeking a Senior Operational Technology Network Engineer to join the Trans,Substation & Sys Protect division. In this role, you will design, deploy, monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize OUC’s operational network environment. You will configure and support switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers, and wireless systems; lead network projects; recommend technology improvements; and ensure secure, dependable network operations that support OUC’s essential utility services. Because this position centers on the operational network, experience working in high‑availability, critical‑infrastructure environments is especially important. Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Management Information Systems (MIS), or related discipline from an accredited college or university. In lieu of a degree, equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience may be substitutable on a 1:1 basis
Minimum of five (5) years progressive experience in an Information Technology network environment
Above to include a minimum of three (3) years of experience managing networks (MPLS preferred)
Trouble-shooting wired and wireless networks
Configuring switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers
Working on network related projects and coordinating with stakeholders
Working knowledge of network administration and architecture
Working knowledge of access control models, network security and firewall administration
Working knowledge of coding languages for scripting (e.g., Python, Perl)
Working knowledge of network diagnostic, monitoring, and analysis tools
Solid understanding of network operating systems
Proficient in load balancer administration
Working knowledge of communication protocols (mainly TCP/IP) and routing protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF)
Working knowledge of detailed network diagrams
Working knowledge of network disaster recovery documentation
Experience with Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) Network Protocol, Spanning Tree, and other industry network protocols and best practices
Experience with Network Switches, Next Generation Firewalls, Routers, and Load Balancers, Wireless Controllers and Access Points
Effective interpersonal, active listening, and written and verbal communication skills
Ability to perform tasks with limited supervision and adept at working independently and taking ownership of tasks
Demonstrate a strong ability to troubleshoot problems effectively
Ability to create and maintain detailed network diagrams (Visio, PDF)
Ability to provide guidance and mentorship to entry and intermediate level team members
Ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals, and compute rates, ratios, and percentages
Ability to understand and apply governmental accounting practices in maintenance of financial records
Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and standard office equipment (telephone, computer, copier, etc.)

Nice To Haves

Experience with public or government cloud network environments
Professional certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or CCDP
Experience working in NERC/CIP‑regulated environments
Experience with both Cisco and Fortinet network equipment

Responsibilities

Design, deploy and manage the corporate networks (LAN, WLAN, WAN)
Configure and install software, servers, routers, and other network devices
Test changes to the Network environment (operating system patches, cybersecurity modifications, and upgrades) on the Test Network Lab prior to promoting changes to production
Monitor network performance and integrity of switches, next generation firewalls, load balancers, and routers using network monitoring, SIEM and other tools
Resolve issues that tiers of support have escalated by troubleshooting cloud and local infrastructure
Automate tasks and monitor their effectiveness
Mentor and train mid-level and associate-level team members on technical issues
Create, oversee, and test security measures (e.g., access authentication and disaster recovery)
Maintain complete technical documentation network configurations using detailed architecture diagrams
Identify forthcoming end of life equipment and recommend replacement models
Maintain an Inventory of all Test and Production Network equipment, including salvage
Coordinate with IT staff and support staff managing other business unit networks (Supervisory control and data acquisition [SCADA] systems, Water Production)
Stays abreast of developments in the industry and brings recommendations for improvements in design and support of network infrastructure
Serves as project lead for projects impacting OUC networks including vendor management and budgeting for projects
Adds to repository of best practices and knowledge for training and reference needs
Performs other duties as assigned
