About The Position

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) is seeking a dynamic and analytical professional for the Senior Operational Auditor role within the Audit and Financial Investigations (AFI) Branch. In this role, you will lead the planning and execution of large, complex, and high-profile audits and reviews across the gaming, horse racing, cannabis, and alcohol sectors under the branch’s risk-based Annual Audit Plan, while overseeing the work of assigned team members. Experience in data analytics, along with knowledge of land-based casinos, charitable gaming, iGaming, sports betting, as well as key risk areas such as anti-money laundering and responsible gambling practices, would be considered an asset. The successful candidate will also collaborate on cross-functional initiatives and build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • A combination of post-secondary education and 4–5 years of work experience in a related field
  • Strong team leadership skills – interpersonal skills, planning, coordination and execution, relationship management, accountability, and knowledge sharing
  • In-depth knowledge of auditing business processes and related internal controls
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and manage multiple project assignments simultaneously
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including strong report writing.
  • Political acuity to manage sensitive and high-profile issues
  • Strong stakeholder and relationship management skills
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound judgment and discretion
  • Extensive understanding of relevant legislation and AGCO regulatory standards and requirements
  • Flexibility to work variable hours, including occasional weekends and statutory holidays
  • Valid Ontario driver’s licence and ability to travel throughout the province
  • Eligibility to work in Canada and the ability to successfully complete a criminal background check

  • Professional accounting or auditing designation (CPA or CIA)
  • Strong project management and change management skills to support audit modernization initiatives
  • Broad understanding of IT governance, forensic accounting, and associated auditing practices

Responsibilities

  • Support the Manager in the development of an annual audit plan for gaming, horse racing, cannabis and alcohol lines of business.
  • Plan and execute large and high-complexity audits and reviews.
  • Lead the development of audit frameworks, policies, procedures and standards for the branch’s operational audit and review practices.
  • Provide expert advice regarding the achievement of regulatory outcomes and the state of internal controls; as well as conducting investigative audits/reviews when issues arise.
  • Develop/execute strategies in response to significant regulatory incidents.
  • Lead audit planning, assessments, and the development of compliance strategies.
  • Manage the execution of projects/initiatives and individual deliverables under branch and divisional plans.
  • Contribute to branch learning and development initiatives.
