About The Position

Apex Companies is a fast-growing EHS consulting firm seeking a motivated Senior Occupational Safety Professional. This role focuses on employee accident prevention and involves executing occupational safety projects from start to finish at client sites. Key responsibilities include assessing employee injury exposure, evaluating safety program effectiveness, and providing continuous improvement support. While the primary focus is Industrial/Occupational Safety, knowledge of Ergonomics and Industrial Hygiene is desirable. The role also requires project leadership and management, with an emphasis on being an energetic self-starter capable of working independently and delivering results within budget and timeframe. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred – ideally, in a science or engineering field.
  • Minimum 7+ years of experience required, working in the occupational safety / employee accident prevention field.
  • Extensive knowledge of occupational safety technical subject matter and how to apply it in real-life settings.
  • Highly familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the occupational safety field.
  • Strong technical knowledge in areas such as: Shop Floor Hazard Identification Surveys, Job Safety Analysis / Job Hazard Analysis, Employee Injury Data Analysis, Machine Guarding, Slip/Trip/Fall Prevention, Falls from Elevation, Lockout/Tagout & Energized Electrical Equipment Safety, Confined Space Entry, Personal Protective Equipment, Safety Committees & Conducting Safety Meetings/Training (for Touch Labor, Supervisory Staff, and Management), Powered Industrial Truck Safety, Contractor Safety.
  • Broad spectrum OSHA Regulations understanding.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • High degree of creativity and self-starter initiative.
  • Ability to work independently and produce results within budget and timeframe.
  • Ability to work with numerous customer stakeholders and ensure they are satisfied with project purpose, scope, and tactics.
  • Ensures compliance with all EHS regulations and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Ability to successfully multi-task.
  • Safety awareness, and a good record and understanding of safe work practices.
  • Experience with data management and report preparation.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.

Nice To Haves

  • General base of knowledge in Ergonomics and Industrial Hygiene is also desirable.
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) professional accreditation.
  • Active Secret Security clearance highly preferred (or willing to go through process with us to get one).
  • Experience in manufacturing-&-assembly industries / heavy industry settings a plus.
  • Experience in the aerospace and defense or automotive industry a further plus.

Responsibilities

  • Providing comprehensive occupational safety consulting services to clients.
  • Conducting shop floor observations focused on identifying, assessing, and risk-ranking employee exposures to injury.
  • Devising solution options aimed at mitigating employee injury exposures.
  • Providing clients with hands-on assistance with implementation of chosen solutions.
  • Monitoring the effectiveness of implemented solutions.
  • Tracking and analyzing clients’ employee injury experience, looking for trends, common themes, and potential high leverage accident prevention activities.
  • Coordinating and executing industrial safety projects within set organizational procedures and standards in collaboration with Apex project managers.
  • Designing, implementing, and executing an agreed-to service plan in close collaboration with the external customer.
  • Monitoring and reporting progress on plan completion.
  • Working with numerous internal and external stakeholders to achieve desired overall project velocity.
  • Acting as an advisor to the customer on occupational safety issues.
  • Providing input to project managers, client relationship managers, or business development staff on potential new EHS projects.
  • Participating in business development activities as directed.
