About The Position

The Senior Occupational Safety Professional provides occupational safety consulting services focused on preventing employee accidents. The role executes projects at client sites, combining shop-floor injury-exposure assessments with evaluations of safety program effectiveness and support for continuous improvement. It also provides project leadership and management as needed, requiring independent work and delivery within budgets and timeframes. A general knowledge of ergonomics and industrial hygiene is desirable in addition to expertise in industrial and occupational safety.

The position works closely with Apex project managers and customer stakeholders to design and carry out agreed service plans, advise clients on occupational safety, monitor progress, and help achieve project goals. It may also contribute to business development by identifying potential EHS projects and participating in directed business development activities. The role is based at Kennedy Space Center and is listed as a third-shift position with a four-day work week in most cases.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of experience in occupational safety or employee accident prevention.
• Extensive occupational safety technical knowledge and the ability to apply it in practical settings.
• Knowledge of shop-floor hazard identification surveys; Job Safety Analysis/Job Hazard Analysis; employee injury data analysis; machine guarding; slip, trip, and fall prevention; falls from elevation; lockout/tagout and energized electrical equipment safety; confined space entry; personal protective equipment; safety committees and safety meetings/training; powered industrial truck safety; contractor safety; and OSHA regulations.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work and negotiate with multiple customer stakeholders.
• Creativity, self-starter initiative, and the ability to plan and accomplish goals using experience, judgment, and the customer’s work statement.
• Strong technical writing skills, ability to multitask, safety awareness, and understanding of safe work practices.
• Experience with data management and report preparation.
• Valid driver's license.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Bachelor's degree preferred, ideally in a science or engineering field.

Nice To Haves

• Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) accreditation.
• Active Secret Security clearance, highly preferred; willingness to undergo the clearance process is also noted.
• Experience in manufacturing and assembly industries or heavy-industry settings.
• Experience in the aerospace and defense or automotive industries.
• General knowledge of ergonomics and industrial hygiene.

Responsibilities

• Conduct shop-floor observations to identify, assess, and risk-rank employee injury exposures.
• Develop options to mitigate employee injury exposures, assist clients with implementing selected solutions, and monitor whether solutions remain effective.
• Track and analyze employee injury experience to identify trends, common themes, and high-leverage accident-prevention activities.
• Coordinate and execute industrial safety projects with Apex project managers in accordance with organizational procedures and standards.
• Collaborate with customer stakeholders to design, implement, and execute agreed service plans; monitor and report progress as directed.
• Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to support project progress and desired outcomes.
• Advise customers on occupational safety issues.
• Provide input to project managers, client relationship managers, or business development staff on potential EHS projects and participate in business development activities as directed.
• Ensure compliance with EHS regulations and keep informed of relevant changes to laws and regulations.
