About The Position

The Senior Nurse Informaticist will serve as the bridge between nursing practice and the informatics/IT teams, ensuring that electronic health record (EHR) functionality and workflows support safe, efficient, and high-quality care. The Senior Nurse Informaticist will actively participate in all phases of the EHR project lifecycle, including design input, testing, training, workflow assessment, implementation, and change management, while not directly responsible for system build or configuration. The Nursing Informaticist will also ensure nursing perspectives are fully represented in EHR-related projects and optimization efforts. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned acute care nurse with more than five years of professional nursing experience who is passionate about process improvement and possesses a strong understanding of nursing workflows across a variety of specialty settings. This individual will serve in multiple roles, including educator, consultant, facilitator, and leader, while driving workflow optimization, supporting clinical informatics initiatives, and advancing nursing practice. The ideal candidate will develop deep expertise in the electronic health record, including the nuances of clinical documentation, interdisciplinary workflows, and division of responsibilities across hospital staff and departments. This individual will promote excellence, patient safety, operational efficiency, and evidence-based practice across the organization through the effective integration of clinical expertise, interdisciplinary collaboration, and health information systems.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of full-time professional registered nursing experience
  • Two (2) years of full-time experience in an assigned hospital specialty area such as Med-Surg, Obstetrics, Emergency, ICU, Informatics, or a closely related specialty
  • Must possess and maintain a current, valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of California
  • Must possess a current, valid Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification by the first day of employment and maintain it thereafter
  • Demonstrated knowledge of clinical needs and nursing workflows in multidisciplinary settings

Nice To Haves

  • Five (5) years of full-time professional registered nursing experience which includes experience in multiple specialties
  • Prior informatics experience
  • Experience as a Cerner/Oracle Health super-user
  • Experience developing, administering, and evaluating clinical education programs

Responsibilities

  • Acts as the primary nursing representative in electronic health record (EHR) related projects, ensuring workflows reflect nurse best practices and patient safety
  • Provides nursing expertise during EHR system design sessions by providing feedback and recommendations
  • Partners with the IT team to ensure proposed designs align with nursing workflow, regulatory standards, and quality metrics
  • Evaluates current workflows to identify opportunities for improvement and process optimization
  • Participates in user acceptance testing to validate design and system changes meet clinical needs
  • Documents, tracks, and escalates workflow issues discovered during testing
  • Validates the end-user experience and ensures changes align with intended clinical outcomes
  • Designs and delivers staff training programs and competency assessments to support end-user adoption
  • Provide hands-on support for system upgrades and new functionality rollouts
  • Serves as a resource for nursing staff to reinforce documentation standards and workflow best practices
  • Promotes and supports effective change by engaging stakeholders and ensuring a smooth, well-coordinated transition for nursing staff
  • Collaborates with clinical leadership to standardize documentation practices across nursing units
  • Identifies gaps that impact quality metrics, reporting, or compliance, and takes appropriate steps toward correction
  • Participates in hospital and/or nursing administration care committee
  • Develops, implements and documents performance improvement processes
  • Performs other related duties as required

Benefits

  • Educational Incentive for completion of: 2.5% for an Associate's degree, 3.5% for a Bachelor's degree, or 5% for a Master's degree.
  • Bilingual Incentive: Incumbents may also be eligible for bilingual incentive depending upon operational need and certification of skill. Proficiency levels by exam are $.69 per hour (Level I), $1.00 per hour (Level II), or $1.32 per hour (Level III).
  • Certification Pay: $0.813 per hour based on scheduled work week hours for each qualified certification up to a maximum of five (5) certifications. One of the five certifications may be paid at $2.00 per hour for a National Certification.
  • Continuous County Service Incentive Pay: 1% for 7 years, 1.25% for 12 years and 1.5% for 17 years
  • Flexible Credit Allowance: Biweekly contribution towards medical, dental, and/or vision insurance from authorized plans.
  • Pension Plan: Participation in the County's defined benefit plan.
