Senior Nonprofit Accountant
About The Position
Mission Edge is seeking a client-facing, senior-level nonprofit accounting professional who thrives on solving complex problems, advising mission-driven leaders, and using professional judgment. This role is for someone who wants to be a strategic advisor, not just close the books. Our clients are mission-driven organizations doing meaningful work in their communities, and they rely on us not just for accounting accuracy, but for financial clarity, compliance, and strategic guidance. You will serve as a trusted advisor, helping nonprofit leaders understand the financial story behind their programs and funding. This is a thinking role where we are looking for someone who is comfortable with ambiguity, asks strong questions, and can explain the why behind accounting decisions.
Requirements
- 7–10 years of accounting experience with strong nonprofit exposure.
- Deep understanding accrual accounting, GAAP, and grant compliance.
- QuickBooks Online and advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent communication and critical-thinking skills.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary accounting resource for multiple nonprofit clients.
- Lead full-cycle accounting and month-end close processes.
- Analyze complex nonprofit accounting situations and recommend solutions.
- Guide clients on fund restrictions, allocations, and grant reporting.
- Communicate directly with executive directors and boards.
