About The Position

Gray Media is seeking a Senior Producer for KTVK/KPHO (Arizona's Family) in Phoenix. This role is for someone who is a master of the rundown and ready to step into a leadership position. The Senior Producer will lead a creative news team, transforming daily newscasts into high-impact, multi-platform experiences. The position involves coaching and mentoring producers, ensuring quality and sophistication in newscasts, and driving digital integration across all platforms. Gray Media is a growing multimedia company and Arizona's Family is a leading local news provider in Phoenix, known for its strong independent station (3TV), competitive CBS station, and robust digital presence.

Requirements

  • Proven track record of producing compelling newscasts in a competitive market.
  • Experience managing or mentoring a news team.
  • A creative eye for using graphics and video to make stories stand out.
  • Killer writing skills; ability to craft a lead that hooks an audience and a script that flows naturally.
  • Digital-first mindset; understanding that news happens everywhere and readiness to execute a strategy that reflects that.
  • Detail-oriented; ensuring error-free work even under tight deadlines.
  • Proactive problem-solver; seeing the big picture and anticipating needs.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure but never lose sight of the human element.
  • A college degree in journalism or a related field.
  • At least two or more years of newsroom experience.
  • At least one year in a leadership role or management position preferred.
  • Must have a desire to win, the ability to reflect on your work, and apply feedback.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Proven news judgment, ethics, and integrity.
  • Must be able to work quickly and multitask under deadline pressure and breaking news.
  • Ability to work long hours, weekends, and overnights for breaking news and specialized coverage.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of line producers, sharpening their storytelling skills and elevating their newscasts.
  • Review daily rundowns with a critical eye, identifying opportunities to showcase big stories and ensure a sophisticated flow.
  • Review scripts and fonts to ensure every word and graphic is error-free, compelling, and aligned with a digital-first strategy.
  • Work closely with the News Director and Executive Producer to shape high-impact story development and newscast sophistication.
  • Ensure content lives and breathes across all platforms, from the big screen to the smartphone.
  • Navigate the fast-paced news environment with a proactive mindset, independently prioritizing tasks while building deep trust within the team.
