The Senior Network Engineer is a highly skilled, technology-agnostic expert who solves complex IT problems across the infrastructure technology space. The role uses deep knowledge of how IT infrastructure affects Roche’s business to make critical technical decisions with considerable independence. The engineer influences technology strategy, mentors teams, and ensures technical designs and deliveries support long-term organizational objectives and meet regulatory standards. The position leads the design, build, testing, and implementation of integrated, resilient infrastructure solutions. It oversees the campus physical network footprint, including MDF/IDF rooms, structured cabling, hardware deployment, and coordination of local Hands & Feet support and external installation vendors. The engineer also automates repetitive tasks, evaluates emerging technologies through proofs of concept, maintains component standards, and serves as an escalation point for critical network outages. The role involves advising senior managers on technology strategy, policies, and objectives; managing stakeholder, vendor, and ISP/TELCO relationships; and collaborating with enterprise architects, solution owners, and other IT partners. It leads large or enterprise-level project teams, manages network asset lifecycles and hardware refreshes, optimizes deployment costs, and contributes to project planning through estimates of resources, dependencies, risks, and timelines. Solutions must comply with Quality/Regulatory standards and the organization’s Technical Architecture Framework. The position also leads and mentors geo-distributed teams across product lines and business areas.
