About The Position

The Senior Network/Communications Engineer provides expert-level design, implementation, sustainment, testing, and modernization support for FAA network and communications infrastructure. This role supports resilient and real-time delivery of operational data to Government stakeholders by maintaining enterprise network components, ensuring low-latency failover, and preserving continuity of service across operational sites. The role spans configuration management, logistics and deployment coordination, systems test support, engineering support, systems maintenance, outage troubleshooting, and security support. The position requires strong experience with routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, network topology management, WAN-style data transport considerations, failover workflows, recovery documentation, outage simulation, and performance troubleshooting. The successful candidate must be comfortable supporting environments described in the SOW, including Linux, Windows, Cisco, FAA data center, and cloud-connected infrastructure, and must be prepared to work from Atlantic City, New Jersey as the required Government support location for this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Science
  • 15 years of relevant experience
  • Relevant experience directly reflecting network engineering, communications engineering, systems engineering, technical operations, or similarly aligned mission-supporting work products and activities.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and supporting operationally sensitive network and communications environments requiring high availability, failover, recovery planning, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to support work in or for Atlantic City, New Jersey, consistent with the SOW staffing requirement for this role.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance during the entire period of performance.
  • U.S. citizenship required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting FAA, NAS, aviation operations, radar distribution, DoD, DHS, or similarly mission-sensitive federal operational programs.
  • Experience in Linux, Windows, Cisco, FAA data center, and cloud-connected infrastructure environments.
  • Experience with routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, HSRP, VRRP, redundant paths, alternate routing, distributed load balancing, outage simulation, and failover testing.
  • Familiarity with NIST, CISA, IEEE, CIS guidance, NVD, MITRE CVE List, and CISA KEV Catalog concepts within a federal security and engineering context.
  • Experience coordinating deliverables such as PMRs, feasibility studies, technical documentation, issue tracking, meeting minutes, and leadership-ready briefing materials.
  • Desired FAA experience, and knowledge of FAA Mission Networks, Mission Support Networks (MSIP), NAS Enterprise Secure Gateway (NESG), Operational IP Network (OPIP), FTI National Test Bed (FNTB).
  • Knowledge in Sunhillo Servers: (Brigantine and Rici), RHEL 9.0, CentOS, NGINX, Net Box, Insight, UAT, Prod, and Dev environments, Virtual Machines, Cisco Routers, Active Directory, Mongo Databases, Microsoft SQL, Lansweeper, Akamai

Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, implement, and maintain enterprise network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and related communications components supporting FAA operational environments.
  • Support delivery, synchronization, redundancy, and integrity of radar and related operational data over distributed network environments and operational sites.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation including topology documentation, network configurations, operational procedures, recovery paths, and workflow descriptions.
  • Implement HA and failover capabilities including redundant paths, dual-homing, Hot Standby Routing Protocol (HSRP), Virtual Routing Redundancy Protocol (VRRP), distributed load balancing, and alternate routing approaches.
  • Develop network disaster recovery strategies, recovery site connectivity approaches, cloud failover concepts, and low-latency failover workflows aligned to continuity of operations objectives.
  • Develop network testing plans for simulated outages and support DR drills and failover testing to validate readiness and technical response effectiveness.
  • Define, manage, and track network-related configuration items, baselines, version-controlled changes, rollback plans, and audit support artifacts.
  • Support functional, integration, regression, and acceptance testing of network and infrastructure components and document results in approved formats.
  • Collect, analyze, and report performance metrics and technical observations needed to support operational effectiveness and engineering decision-making.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance, upgrades, patching, troubleshooting, and restoration of supported communications and network systems.
  • Monitor system logs, alerts, and telemetry to proactively identify reliability, capacity, and service continuity concerns.
  • Support deployment planning, inventory awareness, warranty support coordination, lifecycle replacement planning, and other infrastructure sustainment actions as required.
  • Support vulnerability review, CVE/KEV analysis, remediation recommendations, security documentation, and reporting activities aligned with the information system security support task.
  • Coordinate with FAA stakeholders, engineering teams, management, and other contractors to ensure integrated delivery of operational and engineering support services.
  • Ensure work aligns with applicable FAA and federal standards and references cited in the SOW, including NIST, CISA, IEEE, and CIS-related expectations as applicable.

Benefits

  • Compensation is commensurate with location and experience.
