About The Position

VetsEZ is seeking a Senior Network Administrator to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) network infrastructure for VistA, the VA Enterprise Cloud (VAEC) AWS environment, and the VA Wide Area Network (WAN). The role plans, administers, maintains, monitors, and secures enterprise and local networks that support VistA and cloud-hosted VA systems. The candidate must reside within the continental United States. The position supports VA and federal IT standards and security requirements, maintains network operations across cloud and wide-area environments, responds to incidents and outages, and works with technical teams and stakeholders. It includes planning and carrying out network work within a SAFe/Agile environment and communicating network status, configurations, and performance. Selected candidates must complete fingerprinting at a government facility and undergo a background check. The employer is unable to offer sponsorship.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electronics engineering, or another engineering or technical discipline; eight years of additional relevant experience may substitute for the degree.
At least five years of experience.
Experience managing, monitoring, and configuring the operations and maintenance of computer systems across varied networks, including high-volume/high-availability systems and wide area networks, for government IT systems.
Experience with AWS cloud networking, including providing and managing connectivity to cloud resources.
Experience working with multiple teams of administrators supporting diverse enterprise and local networks.
Knowledge of agency policies for computer access and firewall and network protection technologies, including experience implementing firewalls and creating plans for network protection.
Ability to develop and maintain network diagrams and documentation using industry-standard tools.
Familiarity with SAFe/Agile methodologies and participation in agile ceremonies.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to share network status with technical and non-technical audiences.
Must reside within the continental United States.

Nice To Haves

Experience supporting VistA networks.
Experience supporting the VA Enterprise Cloud (VAEC) and the VA WAN.
An active Public Trust clearance or higher.
Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Network+ or CCNA.
Experience using AI-assisted tools, such as GitHub Copilot or Microsoft 365 Copilot, to draft network configurations, automation scripts, and documentation, and reviewing and validating AI-generated configurations in a test environment before deployment.
Experience using AI-driven monitoring and analysis to detect anomalies, analyze logs and traffic data, and speed root-cause analysis, with the administrator confirming findings before acting.
Familiarity with secure and responsible AI use in federal environments, including using only agency-approved AI tools, not entering network configurations, credentials, or sensitive VA data into unapproved tools, and following VA and federal AI guidance.
Experience supporting VA or other federal healthcare IT environments.

Responsibilities

Administer and maintain VistA network infrastructure in compliance with VA and federal government IT standards.
Provide ongoing network operations support and maintenance for the VAEC AWS cloud environment and VA WAN, following VA security standards and best practices.
Review, plan, and implement requests for additional network connectivity to cloud resources in the VAEC AWS environment.
Work with administrators and technical engineers across enterprise and local networks to troubleshoot, resolve, and document network issues.
Create plans for effective management, operations, and maintenance of networks and systems.
Develop, update, and maintain detailed network diagrams and related documentation.
Monitor network and infrastructure performance, identify trends, and recommend improvements.
Apply agency policies for computer access, firewalls, and network protection technologies, and create implementation plans.
Monitor network security compliance and recommend and implement corrective actions.
Plan and execute network-related tasks in a SAFe/Agile environment, including participating in agile ceremonies.
Respond to and resolve network incidents and outages; lead troubleshooting to restore service with minimal downtime and document root causes and corrective actions.
Present network configurations, updates, status, and performance reports to clients and stakeholders as required.
