About The Position

Boston Globe Media is looking for a senior-level .NET developer with proven experience to join their engineering department as a member of the Consumer Revenue team. You will work on a team of front-end and back-end developers to deliver a high quality ecommerce experience for bostonglobe.com and affiliated properties. We are looking for someone with an enthusiasm to produce clean, performant, well documented code. The ideal candidate has a willingness to adapt, be audience focused with a curious mindset and is committed to creating an inclusive work environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience building applications with .NET.
  • Strong understanding of the .NET framework, C#, and object-oriented programming.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on delivering high-quality and efficient software solutions.
  • Proficiency in database design - experience with MySQL, Postgres, SQL Server or other relational SQL database (creating tables, views, stored procedures).
  • Experience developing REST APIs using modern-day best practices.
  • Strong knowledge of software development best practices and design patterns.
  • Knowledge of web development using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Knowledge of version control systems such as Subversion and Git.
  • Familiarity with the agile methodology of software development.
  • Efficient communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • A desire to continuously learn new skills and to mentor junior team members.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with data analysis and making data-driven decisions.
  • Experience with performance analysis and tuning of database and web applications.
  • Experience using Piano ID for identity management.
  • Familiarity with React and the Node.js ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Develop efficient, scalable software solutions using the .NET framework and related technologies.
  • Collaborate with business analysts and project managers to understand application requirements.
  • Take ownership of projects from start to finish, including feasibility, solution design, scoping and delivery.
  • Integrate software components with third-party systems and services.
  • Provide ongoing support and maintenance for existing software applications.
  • Conduct code reviews, unit testing, and debugging to ensure software functionality.
  • Stay informed about advancements in the .NET framework and related technologies.
  • Be a self-starter able to work independently as well as to work with the team in an Agile (Scrum) workflow.
