About The Position

Androscoggin Bank, a values-driven, mutual savings bank based in Lewiston, Maine, has an opening for a Senior Mortgage Specialist. This role involves working closely with the Mortgage team to prepare and provide regulatory disclosures on complex loans. The specialist will gather, analyze, and verify documentation to ensure loans move efficiently and timely to Underwriting. They will communicate with clients to address identified problems and coordinate with assigned Loan Officers. Serving as a subject matter expert and leader, this role will assist Management in achieving department goals. The Senior Mortgage Specialist will assemble and submit complete loan files to underwriting within Service Level Agreements, assist in training other Mortgage Specialists/Processors, and work independently to accomplish goals. The role requires maintaining an average pipeline of 40 loans per month and the ability to work in a fast-paced and stressful environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • 7+ years of experience in mortgage loan processing and TRID document preparation
  • 7+ recent years of processing FHA, RD, and VA loan files
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct a thorough review of a loan file, analyze the requested transaction and quickly identify problems that may exist as early in the process as possible
  • In depth knowledge of lending regulations
  • Proven experience with Agency, Government, and Portfolio lending guidelines and requirements
  • In depth knowledge of loan department operations, policies and procedures
  • Ability to train and mentor more junior Mortgage Specialists
  • May review files of more junior Mortgage Specialists to help identify problem areas or troubleshoot problems already identified
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of multiple computer applications, specifically word processing, spreadsheet and database management software
  • Ability to perform detail oriented work with a high degree of accuracy
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and complete work in a timely manner

Responsibilities

  • Works with assigned Mortgage Loan Officer and Mortgage Sales Assistant, if applicable, to provide excellent client service by supporting with documentation gathering, analysis and application issues, and meeting established metrics for turnaround on complex mortgage loans.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct a thorough review of a loan file, analyze the requested transaction and quickly identify problems that may exist as early in the process as possible.
  • Prepares and provides accurate RESPA and Reg. B disclosures (as required) to clients.
  • Assumes control of files submitted by Mortgage Loan Officer and Mortgage Sales Assistant, if applicable for processing.
  • Corresponds and communicates with clients to obtain required documentation, answer client questions, and explain loan process and/or program questions.
  • Keeps Mortgage Loan Officer and Mortgage Sales Assistant, if applicable abreast of all client and file issues.
  • Performs timely analysis/review of information supplied by applicants and/or outside sources.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information.
  • Assembles loan files for underwriting by obtaining written and verbal verifications, ordering credit supplements and credit refreshes as applicable, monitoring completeness/status/delivery of underwriting and regulatory conditions, and accurate paperless filing of documents and conditions.
  • Submits accurate and complete loan file to underwriting.
  • Trains and serves as a mentor for more junior Mortgage Loan Specialists.
  • Answers questions and acts as a subject matter expert for department staff.
  • Updates loan status in LOS, CRM, and/or pipeline report as necessary.
  • Provides support to other department personnel as requested.
  • Prepares reports for management and outside agencies.
  • Does other research as necessary.
  • Complies with all banking related laws and regulations communicated to the employee through training and/or written correspondence and those requirements reflected in the Bank's policies and procedures applicable to the employee's duties and/or areas of responsibility.
  • Protects all customer information and institution assets and complies with privacy and acceptable use policies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by Manager.
