About The Position

SAIC is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Mission Systems Engineer to support NSWC Crane and the Multi-Service Advanced Capabilities Hypersonic Test Bed (Mach-TB) Program. The successful candidate will serve as the primary Systems Engineer for a designated hypersonic test mission, providing technical leadership across the full mission lifecycle, from experiment integration through mission execution. This high-visibility role requires deep technical expertise and the ability to coordinate across experiment teams, launch providers, and government stakeholders. The position is primarily telework-eligible, with approximately 25% travel to program sites, test facilities, and customer locations. The engineer will own technical integrity for an assigned mission from concept through post-mission review; manage stakeholder requirements and traceability; develop and maintain Verification and Validation plans; assess feasibility; coordinate experiment and launch-provider integration; review designs, interface documents, and procedures; and support mission integration reviews. The role also serves as the technical point of contact for government customers, experiment principal investigators, and range safety personnel, while preparing briefings and reports, facilitating technical working groups, and coordinating risk and issue resolution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in systems engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related STEM field.
  • 10+ years of experience in systems engineering roles.
  • Demonstrated experience in requirements development and management.
  • Demonstrated experience in verification and validation planning and execution.
  • Demonstrated experience in system integration and interface management.
  • Experience supporting flight test programs, hypersonic systems, or space/launch vehicle programs.
  • Familiarity with DoD acquisition processes and program lifecycle milestones.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills, including the ability to brief senior government and program leadership.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance; Top Secret preferred or ability to obtain.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with hypersonic flight test programs or high-speed vehicle systems.
  • Familiarity with Mach-TB, MACH-TB 2.0, or related DoD hypersonic test infrastructure programs.
  • Experience working with NSWC Crane, DARPA, MDA, or Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) programs.
  • Knowledge of range safety processes, flight termination systems, or launch range operations.
  • Experience with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools such as Cameo, DOORS, or Rhapsody.
  • INCOSE CSEP or ESEP certification.
  • Experience in a multi-payload or rideshare mission environment.
  • Top Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary Systems Engineer for an assigned Mach-TB mission, owning technical integrity from concept through post-mission review.
  • Lead development and management of stakeholder requirements and ensure traceability from mission objectives to experiment design.
  • Develop and maintain Verification & Validation (V&V) plans and track compliance across mission elements.
  • Assess mission feasibility and provide technical recommendations to the Program Office.
  • Coordinate technical integration activities between experiment payload teams and launch vehicle/range providers.
  • Review experiment designs, interface control documents (ICDs), and integration procedures for technical compliance.
  • Identify and resolve interface conflicts, technical risks, and integration challenges across multi-experiment missions.
  • Support integration reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, IRR, MRR) and provide actionable technical feedback.
  • Act as the technical point of contact for assigned mission stakeholders, including government customers, experiment PIs, and range safety personnel.
  • Develop and present technical briefings, white papers, and status reports to program leadership and government sponsors.
  • Facilitate technical working groups and interface meetings to resolve open issues.
  • Collaborate with the broader Mach-TB Systems Engineering team to ensure cross-mission consistency and capture lessons learned.
  • Identify, document, and track technical risks and issues using program-standard risk management tools.
