About The Position

Boeing Vertical Lift Mission Assurance is seeking an enthusiastic candidate to join our Mission Assurance and System Safety Engineering team. We are seeking a Senior System Safety Engineers to join our team on site in Ridley Park, PA. There are opportunities to work on several platforms including Cargo (CH-47 Chinook), Tiltrotor (V-22 Osprey), and Utility (MH-139 Greywolf) located at our Ridley Park, PA site. These are unique opportunities to work proven platforms as well as new design, ensuring mission success and continuing to ensure Safety is designed into the Vertical Lift platforms. In addition, this candidate will assist the Mission Assurance Division Lead with a variety of high-visibility Mission Assurance (BPI-6488) tasks including F/TMARRs (BPI-6091) and Safety Reviews (BPI-6703). As a System Safety engineer, you will have a unique opportunity to work across the entire life cycle of the program, from conceptual development into design and test, production and sustainment of fielded aircraft. You’ll experience the big picture and fascinating complexities of the defense industry while getting hands on experience on the aircraft. As a System Safety Engineer, your primary goal will be to identify and mitigate all potential and existing hazards. You will have the opportunity to learn about all of the aircraft subsystems and their interactions while collaborating with the Engineering Design and Subsystem Teams. We are looking for candidates that can ask the tough questions, challenge conventional thinking and bring potential hazards to our aircraft and crew to light. Typical tasks include assessing a variety of Engineering documents, data and artifacts, while working with the Engineering Teams to determine the safest and most cost effective solutions to a wide variety of actual and potential hazards. Your assessment will include gathering data from field, factory and engineering, calculating probability and severity of possible outcomes and working with the Design teams to influence a safer more robust system. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to interface with all levels of Engineering and Program Management as well as our Customers. This is a unique opportunity in a fast growing and critical discipline. As a more senior System Safety engineer, you will be expected to lead certain efforts while still being paired with more experienced System Safety Professionals to continue your growth in both Safety and the Rotorcraft Platforms while ensuring Mission Success. These programs are part of Boeing Defense, Space & Security’s (BDS) Vertical Lift Division and are located in Ridley Park, PA. Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Senior (Level 4) or Senior (Level 5) Engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • Level 4: 9+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years of experience assisting in any of the following engineering areas: analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification or product assurance or any other specialties engineering discipline
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship

Nice To Haves

  • Level 5: 14+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years of experience with system engineering experience producing specifications and products necessary for design and development of complex systems
  • Experience do you have in leading or managing a cross-functional project

Responsibilities

  • Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to execute Mission Assurance per BPI-6488
  • Executes the Safety Management System efforts for Vertical Lift per D950-12089-1 ‘Boeing Enterprise Safety Management system Manual’ and D950-1208903 ‘Boeing Defense Space & Security Safety Management Plan’
  • Supports Safety Board per BPI-6703 ‘System Safety Escalation Process’
  • Evaluates customer/operational needs to define and coordinate system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces
  • Resolves cross-functional technical issues
