About The Position

AECOM is seeking a senior-level professional who combines mine engineering judgement, robust financial modelling capability, and practical cost estimating expertise to support our minerals consulting work. This role will lead and deliver due diligence cost reviews, mine closure and rehabilitation cost estimates, civil and infrastructure cost estimation inputs, and mine strategy and option evaluations. The successful candidate will be comfortable working across technical, commercial, and risk considerations and communicating findings clearly to clients and internal teams.

Requirements

  • BA/BS and 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience reviewing and adjusting cost estimates for mining projects to support due diligence reviews for investors and corporate development teams.
  • Experience building operating financial models for mining operations.
  • Experience building long-term mine plans and associated physicals and plans to achieve long-term goals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead or support technical and cost reviews for transactions, lender’s/owner’s engineer assignments, and investment decisions.
  • Review estimating basis, assumptions, pricing, quantities, contingencies, risk allowances, and schedule drivers.
  • Produce clear review outputs (key risks, sensitivities, recommended adjustments, and confidence levels).
  • Develop and/or review mine closure cost estimates (concept through definitive level, as required).
  • Build estimate structures aligned to closure scopes (earthworks, demolition, water management, tailings/WRD, monitoring, revegetation, long-term care).
  • Support closure strategy development and identify cost/risk reduction opportunities.
  • Prepare and/or review CAPEX and OPEX estimates for mining and mineral processing.
  • Develop estimate deliverables: BoQ/quantity take-offs (where applicable), pricing build-ups, escalation, indirects, contractor mark-ups, contingency and risk analysis.
  • Contribute to mining strategy including mine development options, production scheduling concepts, equipment selection assumptions, and operating philosophies.
  • Evaluate trade-offs (strip ratio impacts, haul profiles, fleet sizing, productivity assumptions) and translate into costs and financial outcomes.
  • Build and maintain financial models (DCF, NPV/IRR, scenario and sensitivity analysis) linking technical drivers to economics.
  • Provide insights on value levers: production rate, recovery assumptions (as inputs), cost drivers, sustaining capital, closure provisions, and schedule impacts.
  • Interface with clients, run workshops, clarify scope, and present outcomes to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior team members in estimating methods, modelling discipline, and QA practices.
  • Apply strong internal QA/QC on models and estimates (traceability, version control, peer review, auditable assumptions).
  • Promote a strong safety culture and contribute to safe delivery planning for site-based assignments
