About The Position

Orla Mining is seeking a Senior Mine Geologist to provide technical leadership and oversight for all underground production geology activities at the Musselwhite Mine. This role is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of grade control, geological modeling, and resource conversion while fostering a safe and efficient working culture. Orla Mining is an emerging gold producer with a focus on responsible gold mining and creating a net positive benefit for all stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 4-year B.Sc. degree in Geology or Earth Sciences.
  • 5+ years of underground production geology experience (Gold/Precious metals preferred).
  • P.Geo designation from a Canadian province.
  • Must be able to acquire a PGO (Ontario) designation transfer within 30 days of hire.
  • Proficiency in Deswik (MDM/CAD), AcQuire, and, Power BI is highly desirable.
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office Suite is required.
  • Ability to work in an underground environment, including lifting/carrying up to 75 lbs and reaching/climbing as required.
  • A team-oriented professional comfortable working in a diverse, multicultural environment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, train, and mentor the production geology team to ensure technical accuracy and professional growth.
  • Manage the work roster, including flight and accommodation logistics, ensuring 24/7 departmental coverage.
  • Lead by example in all safety protocols; identify geological hazards and communicate risks and opportunities clearly to the Mining, Engineering, Rock Mechanics and Milling Operations teams.
  • Implement effective grade control strategies to optimize head grades and minimize dilution.
  • Review and authorize development prints and stope designs, verifying geological positioning, tones, and grade accuracy.
  • Manage the stope closure process, providing final sign-offs to facilitate timely backfilling operations.
  • Oversee surface material sampling and strategic blending of low-grade material to meet mill requirements.
  • Design, schedule, and manage diamond drilling programs. Issue drill designs and maintain strict cost control over the drilling budget.
  • Lead the interpretation and 3D modeling of mine geology to improve short-term planning.
  • Act as the Deswik MDM Administrator, maintaining workflows and ensuring data integrity across the site.
  • Manage PAG/NAG material segregation and environmental sampling to ensure compliance with provincial regulations.
  • Generate monthly cost accruals and contribute to weekly, monthly, and quarterly production forecasts.
  • Prepare and present high-level month-end reports to management, translating geological data into operational insights.
