About The Position

We are currently seeking a Senior Metrology Engineer who will manage the transfer, tools, and processes from development engineering, including IQ/OQ/PQ qualifications, gage studies, statistical process control, reliability, and process documentation. Our facility in Boulder, Colorado has key functions in Research and Development, Operations, Production, and other disciplines. This facility specializes in the manufacturing of ultra-precision optical components, optical thin film coatings and optical sub-assemblies for demanding applications in lasers, materials processing, instrumentation, life sciences, avionics, and defense. This site offers capabilities that include substantial design and engineering resources, comprehensive optical fabrication and coating capabilities, advanced assembly technology and an extensive in-house metrology lab.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Optics, or related field (Chemistry, EE, etc.).
  • Proficiency with equipment or metrology automation programming (e.g. LabView, Python).

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree desirable.
  • 10 years experience with optical metrology desirable.
  • Proficiency with Gauge R&R desirable.
  • Proficiency with Statistical Process Control desirable.
  • Experience with structured problem-solving tools (8D, DMAIC, etc) desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a technical subject matter expert for optical metrology, with specific expertise in areas such as surface metrology, spectrophotometry, and laser measurement.
  • Supports the transfer of metrology tools and processes from development to production.
  • Support continuous improvement of metrology, process controls, reliability, and up time.
  • Creates and improves documentation for the measurement and quality control of optical components.
  • Trains technicians on the use of tools and processes for optical metrology.
  • Conducts tool and process verification studies using Gauge R&R and similar techniques.
  • Supports troubleshooting of existing optical metrology equipment and processes.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
