Reads water meters and records water consumption; performs service connections and disconnections. This role involves operating hand-held electronic equipment and requires the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally. The position demands continuous periods of walking and standing, with the ability to bend, reach, and position oneself for work in confined areas or overhead. The Senior Meter Reader must be able to work for sustained periods in outside atmospheric conditions and handle physical demands in excess of sedentary work. Effective communication in English is essential for conveying, recording, and exchanging information, as well as explaining procedures and following instructions. The role requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to instructions, deal with standardized problems, make independent judgments, and acquire knowledge related to the occupation. Numerical aptitude for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division is necessary. Interpersonally, the role requires the ability to deal with people beyond receiving instructions, adapt to stress during emergencies or tight deadlines, and exercise consistent tact and courtesy when interacting with professionals, county staff, and the general public.
