Senior MEP Engineer

VeevHayward, CA
$120,000 - $165,000Onsite

About The Position

Veev is leading the transformation of the construction industry with an innovative approach to modular home construction. Veev’s prefabricated closed-panel systems allow homes to be assembled efficiently on-site while delivering a more sustainable and higher-quality final product than traditional construction. As a new subsidiary of Lennar, Veev leverages the strength and scale of its parent company while maintaining the speed and disruptive approach of its roots as a Silicon Valley-based startup. Veev has developed a vertically integrated approach that involves multidisciplinary collaboration across real estate, design, development, engineering, manufacturing, and construction. This role is critical to Veev’s mission of transforming construction through modern, sustainable, and efficient building systems. In this role, you will directly contribute to the development and validation of MEP solutions that improve how homes are designed, manufactured, assembled, and delivered. Your work will have a tangible impact on Veev’s ability to scale high-quality homebuilding through better engineering, stronger DFMA, and tighter integration between design, factory, and field execution. The Role As a Senior MEP Engineer within Research & Development, you will help develop and validate the next generation of MEP building systems for Veev’s vertically integrated homebuilding platform. This is a hands-on R&D engineering role focused on turning early concepts into practical, manufacturable, installable, and scalable solutions. This is not a traditional desk-only MEP design role. The right candidate will be self-motivated, inquisitive, and comfortable working across design, prototyping, factory operations, and field construction to understand how systems actually perform in the real world. You will work closely with the R&D Architect, structural engineering, prototyping, manufacturing, construction, Product, Real Estate, and Engineering Production teams to ensure MEP solutions work not only in the model, but also in the factory and in the field.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 7+ years of hands-on MEP design, engineering, construction, manufacturing, product development, or building systems experience.
  • Strong working knowledge across multiple MEP disciplines, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, water, waste/vent, low voltage, fire/life safety, and building code coordination.
  • Proven ability to solve practical design, installation, manufacturing, or construction problems in real-world environments.
  • Strong understanding of MEP coordination within architectural, structural, spatial, and constructability constraints.
  • Experience developing MEP layouts, details, routing strategies, prototypes, mockups, test plans, or validation methods.
  • Self-motivated, inquisitive, and comfortable exercising independent judgment in ambiguous or early-stage problem spaces.
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills with the ability to explain technical issues, tradeoffs, and recommendations clearly.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with prefabrication, modular construction, closed-panel systems, industrialized construction, or manufactured building products.
  • Familiarity with DFMA, lean product development, first-article validation, prototype testing, or product lifecycle development.
  • Familiarity with Revit, ACC/BIM 360, SolidWorks, SolidWorks PDM, or similar design/modeling tools.
  • Experience working directly with factory teams, field crews, trades, inspectors, or construction partners.
  • Familiarity with California residential codes, Title 24, energy requirements, or U.S. building code standards.
  • PE license, EIT certification, or equivalent technical credential.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and validation of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, low-voltage, and fire/life safety solutions for Veev’s building systems.
  • Partner with the R&D Architect, structural engineering, and prototype teams to integrate MEP systems into early-stage architectural, structural, and product concepts.
  • Develop MEP layouts, routing strategies, equipment locations, penetration strategies, details, and integration approaches that support closed-panel construction.
  • Drive DFMA thinking across both factory fabrication and field construction, ensuring solutions are efficient to manufacture, assemble, install, inspect, and maintain.
  • Design prototypes, mockups, test plans, and validation methods to assess feasibility, manufacturability, constructability, and field readiness.
  • Spend time in the factory and field to observe installation issues, quality concerns, trade constraints, and opportunities for product and process improvement.
  • Analyze existing MEP details, installation methods, and operational feedback to reduce cost, complexity, rework, cycle time, and quality risk.
  • Support root-cause analysis and problem solving for MEP-related issues identified through prototyping, factory builds, NPI, quality feedback, or construction execution.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to develop new products, improve existing models, and validate new technologies before formal release.
  • Help define MEP design rules, technical standards, lessons learned, and scalable building system approaches for future Veev models.
